Introduction

Met up with CT forumites ikkaarianen and Loli and their spouses for some good wines. It was a great evening and the wines were very memorable.

  • 2002 Château de Pennautier Cabardès l'Esprit de Pennautier 90 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Cabardès

    Popped and poured for the first Finnish CT meeting in Helsinki. Very tastey wine with lots of black fruity aromas and a bit of oak showing through. Seems to be at it's peak now. Still have one bottle, could wait for a year to pop it. 50+4+12+16+8=90

  • 1997 Dominus Estate 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    My first really good North American wine, and this just did blow my mind. Decanted but tasted quite soon after, and initially subtle fruity smells with leather and licorice coming through. After a couple of hours the nose changed dramatically and gave off intense aromas of bell peppers and meat. Very very good. On the palate this is very elegant, very smooth. I really enjoyed this wine, thanks to ikkaariainen for bringing it to our meeting! 50+5+13+17+8=93

  • 1999 Dominus Napanook Red 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    My first real Cali Cab, and yes, it is really good! Very expressive with lots of cassis and oatmeal (yum!) on the nose. Very smooth tannins, lots of cassis, this is a big power wine, and I like it. Thanks to ikkaariainen for bringing it to our Helsinki CT meeting! 50+5+12+16+8=91

  • 2004 Icardi Barolo Parej 91 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Had been opened and decanted for several hours. Wow, heavy duty cherry on the nose! Young, young, young, with tons of tannins and cherry on the palate. Towards the end of the evening there seemed to be tar and iron peaking through. Thanks to Loli for sharing this bottle at our first Helsinki CT meeting! 50+4+13+16+8=91
