Round palate, with a saline quality to the palate, fennel on nose, really quite nice. Brightens with air, really lovely, long finish showing a duality of sweetness and saline.
My last bottle. Shows none of the mesquite/bbq on the palate like the bottle I brought to James and Nancy's last autumn. This bottle shows menthol on the nose, along with plenty of Northern Rhone details like grilled meat and pepper. On the palate: salted meat and black pepper, the essence of Syrah, just lovely. While it's fully resolved, there is a textural aspect of a dusty, pebbly country road. The palate here is quite long, with a lot of sustain on the finish.
The nose is beautiful - wild strawberry, light sweet leather, with an underlying raspberry core. On the palate, sweet fruit, strawberry rhubarb. The tannins are quite light. A great, sweet palate presence without weight. Coming back to this wine after some air, I am amazed by its sweetness, lightness, femininity and overall charm and quality.
The nose is faint, showing maybe a bit of Maraschino cherry with alcohol. The palate is not so much austere, in that it's not dry and all structure, but neither is it giving. Like a pool, but without much depth. Dark palate, shows sweetness, some animal fur, not that dry/austere, some dark cherry sweetness. Still young and lacking in depth.
Great clarity to the color - can see my hand clearly through the wine. Apricot, sheetrock dust, whiteflower orange blossom. Weightless, but nice length.
Sweaty, horse saddle nose, sweet red fruit. Call me crazy, but I'd rather spend time with the 1990 Graillot La Guiraude on the table, which is more blue-fruited and savory.
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Yente from the next table sent this over. She was quite impressed with it, but she had no idea that sending this to our table was the equivalent of sending a full cooked pig to her grandson's bar mitzvah. Keith gets coarse raw wood, while to me, the oak manifests more in buttery texture than overt woodiness. Oaky sweet nose, sweet palate but not gross. Actually enjoyable in small doses.
Nose shows cinnamon, but a bit of heat damage. Marty agrees that it's oxidized. Somewhat shallow. Good palate, some orange, cinnamon, cherry pipe tobacco.

1970 R. López de Heredia Rioja Viña Tondonia

1979 Monsecco Gattinara Conte Ravizza
