• 2006 Ridge Lytton Springs

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

  lean blackberry, quite stoney. light on it's dark earth. lean bittersweet chocolate. 06 was a lighter vintage.
  geyserville tends more to dark earth and smoother.
  lytton tends to iron, mineral, and bramble.

  bigger chocolate and fatter fruit for sure. ben calls cakebread. rich in the mouth. violet on the palate. texturally!!!! so integrated. raisination shows handily on the finish.

• 2005 Marietta Cellars Angeli Cuvée

  Marietta wants fruit. Zinfandel with Petite Sirah and Carignan. Black cherry fruit. iron and blueberry. M acid really nice. quite the tannin. very nice balance. surely, i thought i'd be pushing this wine far away with it's 15.6%, but just a beauty.

  black cherry and unsweetened Kool-Aid powder. leaner fruit suggests the '06 vintage. herb and violet on the palate and granite on the nose.

  chocolate, raisin, prune. this style of zin continues to be one that i just don't enjoy. even tasting. it's nice to know to avoid it next time if possible.

  This is the highest elevation for Zinfandel in Napa.
  Black cherry and iron on the nose. brown earth dances around in the background air. nice violet on the palate with hints of bittersweet chocolate.

  Bright fruit expression, similar the '06 Storybook in it's unsweetened Kool-Aid note. herb and then restrained raisination to the finish. positively.
