Introduction

I believe this was the 4th BYOB that HDH has put together. The participation was low, but the group the gathered to share wines was large. My notes are sketchy at best as we indulged ourselves in rapid succession with each wine being poured and consumed.

We began with a very light, small bubble champagne that I forgot to write down.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

Crab cak: pretzel crusted, mango mayo, poppy seed honey

Flight 2 (9 Notes)

Filet mignon: boneless, 12 oz, herb roasted potatoes, creamy spinach, truffle asiago fries (tasty) and roasted mushrooms

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

dessert trio: slice of prime chocolate cake, apple crisp, cheescake lollipop

  • 1996 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rotenberg

    France, Alsace

deep caramel, sweet nose and taste. Older flavor, viscosity just right in the glass. My other WOTN

  • 1988 Château Climens

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Thank you Ed. At these BYOB, most of us bring the reds and few whites are served. Saving the Pinot Gris, Coutet and Climens for dessert was a treat with substantial contrast in wine. Great evening.

  • 1997 Château Coutet Barsac

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

An additional goody from HDH to go along with the '88 Climens. Sweet and tart at the same time, fat on the palate with diminishing flavor.
