Introduction

This was the third annual ATS Dinner. This time around Steve was there so i was not the only wine guy. Aside from the Kanzler Pinot purchased at Parcel 104 all the wines were from our cellars. The first night was at Parcel 104 at the Santa Clara Marriot, and the second was at Forbes Mill Steakhouse in Los Gatos

Wow its pretty hard to put this one in words. Its a special cuvee from 4 barrels purchased by Belivino. Barnyard nose with leather, eath and spice. On the palate it was silk smooth with hints of more leather, sft fruit and berries. long lingering finish. The whole experience was unreal.

  • 1997 Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric 95 Points

Consistent with my prior review. We had ribeye instead of the lamb with this meal.

7/12/2007 rated 96 points: Dinner at Dads with the cousins part II (Dads house): Great wine. Its the first of my barolos that are in a drinking window. it paired well with the grilled lamb that was for dinner. Hints of dust, pencil shavings and fruit on the nose. Hints of berries, rasins, and dust on the palate with excellent soft mouthfeel with a long finish. Very little sediment in the bottle. Seems to have plenty of legs to age further.

  • 2000 Elderton Shiraz Single Vineyard Command 93 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa

    (9/13/2009)

Another awesum selection during our 2 day event. Big and Bold is the easiest description I can think of. Hints spice on the nose with a palate of pepper and dark fruit. Still has a tannin bite to it. We left for dinner and left out two glasses for three hours. Upon our return, the wine had eveolved nicely. THe tannin bite had softened and the nose and palate had gotten more sublte and complex.

  • 2004 Shibumi Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon 95 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena

Stunning. Cant really say much more than that. THis wine has cult potiential in the future if they stay on this path. Hints of blue cheese and bluberry pie on the nose with a palate of dried fruit, berries, and lavender. Finish that went on and on. This was simply decadent.

Closing

As you can see from the scores, there was not a bad one in the bunch. The 04 Shibumi Knoll and the Hospices de Beaune was by far the best for me however.
