Weird Wines

What a way to cure jet lag (again), I made it to dinner after a nine hour flight home to taste some wines not so commonly drunk here.

• 2003 Trefili Pinot Grigio San Marziano

  Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT

  Oak on the nose. Light, fruit infused palate with a slightly mineral finish. Easy drinking and Chinese food friendly.

• 2004 Vadiaperti Fiano di Avellino

  Italy, Campania, Fiano di Avellino DOCG

  Riesling like nose. Like a heavier bodied Pošip. Long finish. I like this vixen.

• 2002 Bodegas Salentein Pinot Noir

  Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco

  Sweet oaky nose. Heavy pinot with forward red fruit and medium length. Worked well with the stir fried lamb cubes.

• 2003 Nando Chardonnay

  Slovenia, Primorska, Goriška Brda

  My contribution from Ljubjiana. Dark gold in the decanter. Spicy, creamy, nutty and buttery on both nose and palate. Not enough acid.

  Light honey with good acidity. Good value.
