    South Africa, Western Cape

    Beautiful clean earthy, chalky terrior on the nose. Very distinctive. Also very light strawberries with a smooth, nice bodied middle.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2001 Estrada Creek Merlot 86 Points

    USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

    Although this scored an 86, I did not really like it. It did have good strong tannins (unusual I thought for its type and age) Thus seems to be holding up well. Clearly light berries on the nose.

    Smells like worn leather - not bad. A dry finish and a hint an antiseptic in the initial nose. Classis French Merlot based blend (yes even though this is Paulliac)

    Very pleasant and I enjoyed more than the score suggests. Great clean earthy terrior on the bouquet with a good moderate body. I expected this to have been over the hill but it was not and it suprised. A shortish finish was a disappointment.

    A touch of terrior in the bouquet with a fruity berry aroma. There was a touch of fizziness on the palate (just a hint) which may be a slight refermenting from excess yeast.

    Lovely clean earthy terrior on the nose and definitely my favorite of the night. Moderate length of finish but full bodied with moderate to moderately high tannins.
