Introduction

The theme for this month's tasting was blends. The exception being the first wine tonight, whic was opened because it's just so damn good.

  • 2007 Bunnell Family Cellars Viognier Talcott Vineyard 91 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Wahluke Slope

    This spent 3 months in used American oak. Light yellow color. Terrific nose, with wonderful floral & rose petal notes, and also apple, peach blossom, lemon curd and tropical fruit nuances. Medium- to full-bodied, with a creamy texture and flavors tropical fruit and lemon curd, with a great mineral streak running through. 91-92 pts.

  • 2006 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Blanc 88 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

    Pale yellow color. Aromas of apple, melon and flowers, with waxy earth and steel nuances. Creamy mouthfeel, with good underlying acidity and flavors of pear and melon.

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    A blend of Sangiovese (60%), Cab Sauv (20%) and Merlot (10%). Garnet color. Notes of plum, mocha, baking spices, blackberry and dark cherry. Flavors of plums, black cherry and red currants.

  • 2005 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône 89 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

    An equal blend of Syrah ad Grenache, with a deep garnet color and aromas of licorice, black fruit, pepper, tar and lavender. What a gorgeous nose! Flavors of garrigue, tar, black fruit, cloves and spice. A terrific little bottle, especially at $13 +/-. 89-90 pts.

  • 2005 Andrew Rich Mesalliance 88 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

    A garnet colored blend of Merlot (60%), Cab Franc (30%) and Syrah (10%). Aromas of sage, olive and dark fruit. Flavors of blackberry, blackk currants and spicy oak.

  • 2006 De Lisio Quarterback 89 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

    A blend of Shiraz (27%), Grenache (25%), Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (23%). Inky garnet color. Notes of plum, chocolate, blackberry and blueberry, with a subtle herbal quality too. Flavors of blackberry, plum and blueberry, with juicy acidity and a long finish. Better balanced than the Andrew Rich we had just before this.
