Introduction

Hard to find with no signs at all, Achaval Ferrer was a treat to visit. Started in '98, it is still a boutique winery.

    Argentina, Mendoza

    Grapes are coming from 5 different regions.
    Nice cassis, prunes and raspberry. Good balance and acidity in the wine.
    Right now this is a little simple but the potential is there. Wait 3-4 years.

  • 2007 Achával-Ferrer Quimera 87 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo

    20% CS - 10% CF - 40% Malbec - 30% Merlot
    The blend changed a little in in 2008 as they introduced some petit verdot.
    Touch of licorice, smoke and a mix of red and dark fruits (more of a dark fruit profile though).
    Med body, med+ acidity, palate matching the nose with a little more vanilla.
    I've never been a fan of the Quimera and this was not different. It is not a bad wine but it is a little boring and forward for me.

  • 2006 Achával-Ferrer Malbec Finca Mirador 90 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza

    Clay soils from Medrano (East of Mendoza, warmer site).

    Very nice nose, smoky with fresh red fruits and prunes.
    Med body and acidity, good fruits along with some light grassy notes on the palate. Wood is already very well integrated and a long smoky (ashes) finish.
    Really needs time.
