Introduction

Laura brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Cycles Gladiator Syrah California 85 Points

    USA, California

    Tasted double blind, decanted for an hour. A fairly dark red with a violet tinge to the edge. The nose was quite expressive with lots of cassis and vanilla oak, quite sweet. On the palate also rather fruity with some tannins, mainly cassis, blackberries and oak, not very sweet on the tongue. Quite an ok wine, but a bit too much oak for me. I was a bit surprised that it was a Syrah, I was thinking Cab Sauv. 50+4+10+14+7=85

  • 2008 Ninth Island Pinot Noir 87 Points

    Tasted double blind, decanted for an hour. A very pale red in the glass, transluscent, not much violet evident. The nose had lots of red berries like lingonberry and also a bit of burnt rubber/smoke. The palate was also quite light and crispy with lingonberry at the forefront, quite acidic with a tiny hint of tannins. This was a nice wine, I enjoyed tasting it. 50+4+11+15+7=87

Closing

Two wines I have been curious about, but haven't gotten around to getting for myself. Quite OK, but I think I won't get any for myself of either. Gonna have a month's break from the ChTR meetings now. :-(
