On the occcasion our tenth wedding anniversary, we invited friends over for dinner with a flight of top-notch wines from the 1999 vintage.

Drunk as aperitif. Beautiful golden yellow color. Long and mineral in the mouth. Excellent, mature - drink now.
Bu comme apéritif. Superbe robe dorée. Long et minéral en bouche. Excellent, à pleine maturité - à boire maintenant.

Mature robe. Very fruity still, but missing the power of the youth without having really gained complexity. Probably would have been better 1-2 years ago.
Robe mature. Encore très fruité, mais ayant la perdu la puissance de sa jeunesse sans avoir réellement gagné en complexité. Etait probablement meilleur il y a 1-2 ans.

Light brick color. Powerful complex nose. In the mouth, the power of the nose gives way to a refined mesh of flavours in the mouth. Long finish. Mature, will hold.
Robe brique claire. Puissant nez musqué. En bouche, la puissance du nez laisse place à une trame raffinée de saveurs. Belle finale en longueur. A maturité, se gardera.

1999 Château Montus Madiran Cuvée Prestige 93 Points

Dark color, no signs of evolution. Powerful tannins still despite 2 hours decant,a dense mesh with lots of fruit and a very long finish. Really excellent. Ready, will hold many more years.
Robe sombre, pas de traces d'évolution. Tannins encore puissants malgré 2 heures en carafe, une trame serrée avec beaucoup de fruits et une très longue finale. Vraiment excellent. A maturité, se gardera encore de nombreuses années.

1999 Château Lafite Rothschild 90 Points

Dark color, no signs of evolution. Discrete nose. Seems closed in the mouth as well - refined mesh of tannins but little fruit. Excellent but disappointing given the pedigree of this wine. Hopefully still too young - this was only decanted 1 hour.
Robe sombre, pas de traces d'évolution. Nez discret. apparaît fermé en bouche également - une trame affinée de tannins mais peu de fruit. Excellent mais décevant au regard du pedigree de ce vin. En espérant que c'est n'est qu'un vice de jeunesse - peut-être aurions-nous dû le passer plus d'1 heure en carafe?

1999 Leeuwin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series 93 Points

Dark purple color. Bursting nose, a symphony of fruits. Great mouth-filling texture. Long in the mouth. Maybe an ounce of disappointment with the complexity of the finish but overall a great wine at full maturity. My WOTN.
Robe pourpre sombre. Une explosion au nez, une symphonie de fruits. Superbe texture emplissant la bouche. Peut-être un brin de déception avec la complexité de la finale mais au bilan un grand vin à pleine maturité. Mon vin préféré de la soirée.

Evolved robe. Smooth, funky aromas. An emotional end to the evening but ultimately a weak, 'down the hill' wine.
Robe évoluée. Doux en bouche, arômes de sous-bois. Un point d'orgue émotionnel pour la soirée mais, il faut l'admettre, ce vin est faible et sur la pente descendante.
