Met up with Vinit, Rene, and Antwone to drink a few wines

Rene brought this and we started with it to get warmed up...I was glad to try it, as I have one also and hadn't tasted it in quite a while

• 2005 Clayhouse Wines Estate Cuvée 83 Points

  USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

  4+12+12+5+50 = 83 - Good
  clear garnet red color...nose of crushed berries, kirsch and candied fruits...very smooth with a slight creaminess, as well as a little heat...ripe, red fruits dominate

this was the main event of the night...I had wanted to drink these two side by side, as they have a very similar blend (mainly tempranillo), but one is from Portugal and the other is from California...was nice to see the differences and I think the Barreto was distinctly Californian and the J & F Lurton was distinctly European

  bark/wood on the nose, along with some eucalyptus and menthol scents...lighter wine with some earthy flavors and some dried cranberry

• 2004 Barreto Cellars Vinho Tinto Silvaspoons/Vina Robles 85 Points

  5+12+13+5+50 = 85 - Very Good
  deep red/purple color...plum and blueberries on the nose...tart flavor, with hints of dried fruit and a little dust...rich, full mouthfeel...after some time, gained a meaty/bloody flavor that was quite nice

well, we needed something else, so Vinit pulled this out

  4+10+12+4+50 = 80 - Good
  nose of red berries, as well as a nutty aroma...chocolate and spice flavors, along with a little confectioners sugar...gripping tannins, but still quite smooth
