Introduction

Brian, John G and I got together at my place to taste a few new adds to the Pat Kerns book. Tre Monti continues to impress for its QPR merits.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2008 Stangeland Pinot Noir Eola Hills Cuveé 88 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

Nose: Bright, tight red fruits with some mineral. Palate: Very primary acidity with tart cherry and cranberry. This should be very good in time as it is basically just out of barrel now. Thanks Brian for giving us a preview of this before release.

  • 2008 Tre Monti Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Campo di Mezzo 88 Points

Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore

Nose: Earth and leather with some underlying fruit and herbs. Palate: Tart acidity (it is very young) with red fruit. Simple but pleasant.

  • 2007 Tre Monti Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva Thea 92 Points

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Sangiovese di Romagna

Nose: Wow! Big almost sweet berries with a perfumy, floral (roses) quality. After some air a distinct dusty eucalyptus quality added to the mix. Palate: Very forward cherry and raspberry on the front with firm yet balanced tannins and some spice. Great effort and the wine of the line up for me.

  • 2008 Tre Monti Colli di Imola Ciardo Vigna della Villa 90 Points

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Colli di Imola

Nose: Apple, bannana and pear with a subtle almost powdery aroma (almost a chalky quality). Palate: The tropical fruits of the nose show, but there is just enough acid to buttress the fruit and keep the wine from being cloying. I liked this much better than the Salcerella (which is more Sauv Blanc based).
