TWC does NV Champagnes

Our annual end of the year bash was a night filled with much laughter and fun. Everyone dressed to the nines until it was time to strip down for the hot tub. The last of us got home around 3 a.m.

• NV U més U fan Tres Cava 1+1=3 85 Points

  Spain, Cava

  Solid value. Pale gold, with medium sized, slow bubbles (from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass). A nose of lemon and grapefruit, with light and frothy flavors, mostly grapefruit. Medium bodied and quite tasty.

• NV Domaine St. Vincent (Gruet Winery) Brut 85 Points

  USA, New Mexico

  Pale gold with slow moving small bubbles (from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass). An enticing doughy nose with apple and lemons. More dough and yeast in the mouth. Terrific value for less than $10. Bone dry finish.

  Beautiful gold coloring. A savory, nutty nose with very smooth flavors (from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass). Excellent value.

• NV Laurent-Perrier Champagne Brut L.P. 90 Points

  France, Champagne

  Pale straw, some gold hints, with fast moving, medium-sized bubbles. A nose of pepper, coffee and smoky apricots, very unique and interesting. Consumed from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass. Dark roasted coffee flavors with spicy overtones the wine was expressive, seemingly fully mature and quite magnificent. If the wine was off (coffee??) then it was the best off bottle of wine I've ever had!

• NV Montaudon Champagne Réserve Première Brut 89 Points

  France, Champagne

  Pale straw in color with a very biscuity nose with green apple, yeast and toast. Tasted from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass. Very round in the mouth with citrusy fruits adding some bite to the vanilla and soft apple flavors. Superb balance. Crisp and elegant. Very seductive and very good value.

  Tasted from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass. This wine never disappoints. A yeasty, buttery, biscuity nose with more of the same in the mouth. Dry yet refreshing. Very flavorful, very rich and very creamy. Terrific NV Champers. A point.

  Beautiful salmon color with medium beads. A nose of strawberry and pear that does not develop much. Crisp flavors in the mouth that satisfy but do not excite. Not super dry, with a little sweetness on the finish.

  Tasted from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass. 100% Chardonnay. Pale straw, with medium-sized bubbles. A nose combining yeast, dough and apple with citrus undertones. Medium-bodied with clean citrus fruits. Wonderful acidity. Fuller bodied than most NV champagnes. Very good value.

  Consumed from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass. Pale gold, with very fine bubbles. Yeasty and biscuity with grilled almond and green apple flavors. Well balanced, good acidity and a fine finish.

  France, Champagne

  Fine, slow moving bubbles. A nose of bread sough, with spicy overtones. Full and flavorful in the mouth with super apple, dough and biscuit flavors that are complex and mature. A gorgeous NV. Tasted from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass.

• NV Laurent-Perrier Champagne Grand Siècle "La Cuvée"

  France, Champagne

  Still austere and tight this was a mix of the 96, 95 and 93 blends. A very expressive nose of nose with chalk, mineral and green fruits. Bright apple flavors and good acidity this wine needs at least 10-15 years to show anywhere near its full potential. Full of flavors and dexterity. Tasted from a Riedel Vinum Prestige Cuvee Glass.
