Introduction

My Aunt & Uncle came home to celebrate with my Grandmother so I brought out a few wines to celebrate my Aunt's German heritage...

Flight 1 (1 Note)

Served this while we were preparing the meal...

  • 2001 Paul Anheuser Niederhauser Felsensteyer Riesling Spätlese trocken 90 Points

    Germany, Nahe

This was a pale yellow in the glass with scents of lemon, quince, ginger, and slate. In the mouth this light bodied white had tart acidity followed with flavors of freshly sliced green apples, lemon, minerals, and a lingering note that reminded me of a slightly green banana. A great food wine that shows off how great the dry German wines can be as well...

Flight 2 (1 Note)

Served this with the meal...went very well with the squash

  • 1975 Klosterhofgut Wehlen Wehlener Abtei Riesling Auslese 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

In the glass this was a deep golden/amber color with interesting aromas of honey comb, fig, and a hint of freshly split white birch. In the mouth the acidity was still there but not the center of attraction. Layered flavors of nectarine, peach, blood orange, cherry, honey, apple fritters, boggle the mind with a hint of coconut at the tail end of the finish. Well worth the price of admission...
