Introduction
The second of an on-going series of blind tastings. One flight, six wines simultaneously, twenty minutes to identify grape, country, appellation, and price.

Not great, but not to bad on the day, especially considering I had a pretty nasty cold... All in all a great line-up.
2007 Coquerel Sauvignon Blanc Le Petit Coquerel 91 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Tasted blind. Great nose full of citrus, grass notes, and 'cat piss' that scream Sauv. Blanc and indicate no oak. The palate is just a vibrant with the same citrus notes, especially grapefruit, coming through nicely with the acidity to a cleansing finish. A very nice wine. I guessed 2008 Sancerre around $30. I guess I payed the wine a nice complement. I wouldn't hesitate to buy some. A great QPR. By the way, this is the second wine from the Cockerell Family Wine Estates, Terroir Coquerel being the "Grand Vin," if you will.

2000 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 85 Points

Tasted blind, the second wine of six. A slightly oxidized nose with nutty, buttery notes and little to no fruit. I knew I had tasted the wine before, but could not for the life of me place it. By the way, both bottles I've tasted have been stored perfectly since release, so there is no question of poor storage leading to these flavors. In the mouth the wine was also flat, the fruit was minimal and the oxidation was again evident. Not a huge fan. I knew the grape was Chardonnay, but because of the perception of oak, due mostly to the oxidative nature and the buttery notes, I guessed Sonoma Coast from the late 1990s around $80/bottle. As soon as I saw the bottle I remembered vividly my previous experience with the wine. Oh well, need to bank these experiences in my memory more effectively...

1988 Château de Monbazillac Monbazillac 92 Points

Tasted Blind. Wine three of six. Deep golden to bronze color. Botrytis on the nose, with peach and other orchard fruit spilling out of the glass. Vibrant and delicious aroma, I love botrytis and the fruits coming through made my mind jump straight to the Loire Valley and especially Coteaux du Layon with around 15 years of age at a price point around $60.
Glad to be wrong on this occasion as this wine is fantastic and a tremendous value. Nice!

Tasted Blind. Wine four of six. This screamed cab blend from the nose, but I did not pick up the Syrah until after the wine was revealed. This is a great bottle of wine with loads of cassis, plum, blackberry, and spice coming through. Nicely integrated oak on the nose. In the mouth this is a smooth, structured cab with oak that is hiding beneath the surface. I guessed 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet around $60. Can't be right about everything. Nice bottle though and a great QPR.

2004 Melis Priorat 88 Points

Tasted blind, fifth wine out of six. A big wine, with a nose full of saddle leather, black cherries, licorice, big, rich and syrupy. Evidently alcoholic, but not from the heat (little of that), but from the sweet and port-like character. The mouth is more of the same, with sweet, rich fruit bombarding every taste bud. I guessed Spain, Rioja, Grenache from 2002 around $40. Not terrible. A nice bottle in it's own right, but not my style.

1991 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 93 Points

Tasted Blind. Sixth wine of six. Nice, obviously older bottle and a bordeaux blend with Cab Sauv and Merlot with the obvious majority, while there seemed to be some petit verdot as well. A nice, balanced wine with a well-evolved cabernet nose, with a slightly green note. A lovely wine that I place as an off vintage Bordeaux. A high-caliber Medoc, 1994, $80 is my guess. Beautiful wine, had two more glasses of this with the meal of Confit de Canardes and butternut squash that followed.
