    Really nice '99. Youthful yellow citrus fruit flavors and great mineral notes. Particularly firm for '99. Great balance. Will last. Very nice.

    All acid and mineral - leaner yellow fruit. Some nutmeg spice notes. Ready to drink. Lacks a bit in body, but very nice.

  • 1979 Gaja Barbaresco

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

    Red cherry fruit and potpourri. Some fur and tar notes. Medium bodied. Forward fruit profile. High pitched finish. Feminine styling. Didn't change much in the glass. Very nice.

  • 1970 Giacomo Conterno Barolo

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Somewhat off-putting wet leaves and decay at first, but really opened up nicely in the glass. Piercing red fruit, floral notes, and sous-bois. Firm structure with high-toned acidity. Great balance. Masculine styling. Very nice.

    A bit corked which shows in the shut down, hard front. Some brett. Slightly sharp acidity. OK - not nearly up to what this wine is capable of.

    More red-toned. Still very youthful and even shut down. Firm, grainy tannin structure. Needs time.

    Deep red and black fruits. Forward, round, opulent, but well restrained wine. Great balance and mouthfeel throughout. Fine tannins. Modern Napa - very good.

  • 1955 Château Cheval Blanc

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Really amarone-like on the nose. Blueberry fruit and chocolate. Unmistakably sweet and porty; some VA. Soy sauce and dark fruit palate. Very dark color. Not unenjoyable, but really odd. Almost certainly not correct but unclear on which front.
