    Dirty socks. Hopefully an off bottle or damaged in some way. Undrinkable. 13% alcohol.

  • 2004 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

    Straw yellow color. Lemon citrus nose. Noticeable vanilla oak backbone that with time will integrate nicely. Tastes of melon, apple, lemon and caramel. Nice freshness and acidity. Medium bodied. Rich finish with good complexity. 13.5% alcohol.

  • 1996 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    Ruby red color. Aromas of plumb and cherry. Mature blackberry and cherry fruit. Soft earthy finish with a slight tartness. 13% alcohol. Tasted double blind. My guess was red burgundy. My #6 and 4BOW #4 (3 way tie).

  • 1994 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    Garnet color. Nose of black cherry and pepper. Tastes of cherry, spice and earth. Loaded with barnyard and quite tannic. Flat with a watery finish that just falls off a cliff. What a disappointing wine. 12.8% alcohol. Tasted double blind. No earthly ideas as to what this wine was. My #7 and a unanimous 4BOW #7.

    The backup bottle was only slightly better but still a monumental disappointment. From all the other CT scores it appears we had a few bad bottles. Possibly storage/provenance issues?

  • 1990 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Dark ruby color. Black cherry aromatics. Blackberry, currant, blueberry, cedar. Firm fine grained tannins. Impressive depth in the mid palate. Long elegant finish. Well made with very good balance. Tasted double blind. My guess was domestic Cabernet from Napa. My #2 and 4BOW #1.

  • 1998 Wild Duck Creek Shiraz Bridie's Row 91 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Heathcote

    Deep ruby color. Blueberry nose with some nice mint notes. Tastes of blackberry, cherry, blueberry and clove. Good balance. Nice depth and complexity in the mid palate. Rich finish. 14% alcohol. Tasted double blind. My guess was Australian Shiraz. My #3 and 4BOW #3.

  • 1998 Penfolds Grange 90 Points

    Dark ruby color. Blueberry nose with some menthol notes. Blueberry, anise, cherry and pencil lead on the palate. Bright acidity. Cherry kirsch finish. Tasted double blind. My guess was Australian Shiraz. My #4 and 4BOW #2. Odd, this wine showed much better the last few times I've had the pleasure to drink it.

  • 2003 Château Léoville Barton 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

    Dark purple color. Black fruit aromas with some barnyard that seemed to blow off as the night wore on. Tastes of blackberry, currant, earth, graphite and cedar. Well balanced. Medium bodied. Very nice mid palate complexity and length. Elegant finish. 13% alcohol. Tasted double blind. My guess was left bank Bordeaux. My #1 and 4BOW #4 (3 way tie). Not quite up to the level of the last few times I've had this wine.

    From 375ml. Pale yellow color. Tropical fruit nose. Tastes of melon, apple, honey and orange. Flat and cloying. No acidity. What the hell happened to this wine? 13.5% alcohol.
