As mentioned in my post of a few days ago, here are the notes on the teaser flight. Enjoy.
My next post will look at the 1984 through 1987 vintages, which was my favorite flight overall among the 5 flights of wines last Sunday. Stay tuned.
1983 Dominus Estate
USA, California, Napa Valley
Effusive nose that screams plum, truffle, earth, and eucalyptus/menthol. Velvety texture, medium bodied, fresh and alive.Morel mushrooms and black currant fruit. Stunningly good.

1988 Dominus Estate

Not nearly as good as the 1983. Shockingly unevolved tannins. Very earthy with extremely pronounced tobacco leaf notes. Black currant fruit that's fading faster than the tannins and wine is feeling a little lean.

1994 Dominus Estate Napanook Vineyard
USA, California, Napa Valley
This was just silly good. Still very young. Pure velvet, very high in tannins, somewhat primary blackberry/cassis fruit. Medium to full bodied. Impeccable balance, elegance, finesse, and Bordeaux-likeness. Definitely shows off some Brett, but in a very good way. Dead ringer for 1990 Montrose on the nose. One of my favorite wines of the night.

1999 Dominus Estate
USA, California, Napa Valley
Although this was obviously a baby and had potential, our bottle was unfortunately corked. There was consensus at our table regarding that.
