Decanted for sediment. Mushroom red fruit nose. Crazy smooth - pure silk texture. Light tannins, medium acid and body. Nice age, still lots of primary fruit, but probably at or slightly past peak. Elegant. Pepper. This has that distinctive thing I get from 20+ California cabs that I've never been able to describe.
Slightly shy nose, typical ripe Cali pinot notes. Definitely ripe on the palate, with lots of juicy strawberries. Slightly flabby acidity, lightish tannins, medium body. A little heat, but no jamminess. Noticeable oak. I've been more into the leaner Oregon style lately, but a year ago I would have rated this quite a bit higher.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Meaty nose, slightly high-toned and herbal. Relatively ripe. Light body. High-toned acidity, tannic. Some poop, red cherry, greenness. Very meaty - almost like a Northern Rhone. Hugh and long. Slightly lean.
France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru
From a 375. Raisin bomb! Not in the over-ripe gloopy sense, but just like you're eating a handful of raisins. Light heat, sort of fortified tasting. Long and elegant.
