2006 Chianti Tasting

Introduction

Met up with 10 other guys from the eBob forum. Decided to get a selection of 2006 Chianti's and all of them showed well. I thought the wines were heavily influenced by food - scores seemed to jump 3-6 points once food was brought into the equation. Also, all of these wines seemed very young. I think it would be great to have a similiar tasting in 5-7 years. I think the wines would show a lot better.

    Nose has darj cgerrym dyst abd a gubt if green pepper. Probably the least enjoyable wine of the night for me. VERY tannic - will probably be better in 10 years.

  • 2006 Fontodi Chianti Classico 87 Points

    Faint nose of celary salt and plum jam. This also has a dried tobacco flavor to it too. Mouthfeel is really light but the sour cherries are really nice right now. It also has nice levels of acidity.

  • 2006 Fattoria Viticcio Chianti Classico 92 Points

    Easily my WOTN. What a different nose! Nose was dominated by herbs; rosemary, jasmine, and thyme. There's plenty of fruit there too. Dense cherry, and plum are significant.....with lots of tannis. Lots.

  • 2006 San Giusto a Rentennano Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baroncole 86 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

    Creme caramel, toffee, light chocolate and saddle leather are the main components of the nose. Relatively simple wine, with almost a fruit cake type of taste.

  • 2006 Brancaia Chianti Classico 91 Points

    Smells like chocolate cake. Chocolate ckae with amaretto on top. On e of the darker wines of the night. A nice blalance of fruit and "darkness". My #3 wine of the night.

  • 2006 Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva 87 Points

    Coffe grinds and dark fruit are on the nose. Relatively light wine, with cassis, and milk chocolate.

  • 2006 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia 90 Points

    wow. way too young. drink this bottle now and you'll be disappointed. there's some sweet fruit with some rhubarb, bluberry, and oak. Nice acidiy on this wine with a really nice mouthfeel. Still VERY VERY tannic!

    One of the better labels of all time. Sweet graham cracker nose with lots of dark sour cherries. Very very, dry, tight and tannic. Please put this away for a number of years.

  • 2006 San Giusto a Rentennano Chianti Classico 88 Points

    Radishes (the spiciness at least), cherries, and a subtle mushroom smoke were the major factors on the nose. The taste is dominated by red fruits, it's still tight....very young wine!

  • 2006 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva 91 Points

    There was a slight mint on the nose at first, seemed to blow off, but this was a complex...dense wine. The wine itself was full of charcoal, deep cherry, sour cherry, with a very nice amount of dried tobacco. There was also a slight meatiness on this wine that i didn't see on the others. Very nice!

  • 2006 Podere il Palazzino Chianti Classico Grosso Sanese 89 Points

    A strange orange flavor seemed to come on at first, but blew off after 5-7 minutes. There was a nice amount of clove on this bottle with some smoke and sour cherry. This was showing very well - a great bottle of Chianti.
