Introduction
Another great CDP event! In attendance were Brian G and Ashley (from CA), John R, John G, Craig V, David M, Scott P, Kevin B, Gary A, and me. The wines were fantastic but many were popped and poured so the scores are probably a little light due to the primary nature of some of the wines. As always a good time was had by all.
2002 Fiddlehead Cellars Sauvignon Blanc L' Orvert 90 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley
Nose: Floral with peach and assorted citrus fruits. Palate: Good acidity (still at 7 years old!) with citrus. Very Sancerre-like in style albeit without the mineral. Nice Sauv Blanc and a great starter wine.

1999 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points

Nose: Somewhat musty originally then aromas of road tar, tobacco, and later bacon. Palate: The funk shows a little but after air showed red fruit, good acid levels, and an elegant medium length finish.

2004 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 94 Points

Nose: Very multi-layered with floral traces under an array of spices (clove, bay leaf, and sage) and some mineral hints. Later a pronounced caramel quality arrived. This nose transformed about three times over the night. Very cool. Palate: Fresh acidity with an inky quality and firm yet balanced tannins. A massive wine yet still so elegant. A great wine and for me my WOTN.

1999 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

Nose: Deep raspberry aromas and some floral notes. Palate: Bright acidity with the raspberry very much front and center. Medium length finish. Very new world in style (at least this bottle).

2004 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

Nose: Fresh spring air and mint with faint butter aromas. Palate: Red fruits with some soft tannins. Perhaps needed more air.

2000 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul 93 Points

Nose: The typical horsey quality was not present thanks to a long decant (5+ hours). Aromas of black fruits, earth, spice and some sandlewood. Palate: Wonderful spice and black fruit interplay. Very silky although massive on the palate. Good tannins yet soft and evolved. This wine is in a good place now and is drinking fantastic! Narrowly missed out for WOTN by the '04' Clos des Papes.

2006 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

Nose: Sappy and new world fruit. Palate: Very sweet red fruit with a medium to long finish. Very primary. Perhaps this needed more air?

2000 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 91 Points

Nose: Leather and allspice with some scallion aromas. Palate: Firm tannins and acidity with some spice. Very elegant after a long time in the glass. Nice but not nearly as amazing as a year ago.

2001 Domaine de Beaurenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Boisrenard 91 Points

Nose: Violets with other assorted flowers and minty undertones. Cassis also present. Palate: A little too much alcohol heat. Red fruits and spice. Nose was the most unique aspect of this wine. Might have scored a little higher if not for the heat.

2006 Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet 91 Points

Nose: Black fruit and black pepper. Palate: The big pepper shows with the black fruit and some garrique. Very nice but I prefer the '05'. This wine did not see any decant so perhaps it just needed more air to show.

2007 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points

Nose: Spice and bright red fruits. Palate: Good acidity with the red fruits. Nice but very primary. I do not think this wine was decanted either.
