Introduction

We visited the winery to get some wines and were pleased to be given a tasting by the owner's son, who is one of the winemakers. It was an enjoyable 20 minutes as we went through the wines I was particularly interested in getting.

  • 2005 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois Rêve de Carignan

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois

    Screw top, apparently sold only in Australia. 100% Carignane. Tasted at the winery, lots of red fruit like cherry on the nose, nice smooth drinking. Feels like this could be good on a hot summer eve served at cellar temp. Was given a bottle as a gift after purchasing other wines.

  • 2006 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois-La Livinière La Féline

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois-La Livinière

    Tasted at the winery. This was a nice meaty wine with good fruit and lots of tannins. Feels like it could use a bit of time in the cellar. This vintage is 70% Syrah, 20 % Grenache and 10% Carignane. Got 3 bottles.

  • 2008 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois Belle de Nuit

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois

    Tasted at the winery. 100% Grenache. Label has changed from previous vintages, as well as the bottle shape (previously a Burgundy bottle, now a Bordeaux bottle). This was very fragrant on the nose, lots of melony and cherry smells! The palate was bursting with red fruit, quite delicious. Must try a bottle of this at home to see if I get the same impressions. Got 6 bottles.

  • 2006 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois Cuvée Maxime

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois

    Tasted at the winery, 100% Mourvedre. A powerful wine with lots of tannins. Somewhat austere black fruit on the nose and the palate. This should be put to sleep in the cellar for some years. Got 2 bottles.

Closing

The first wine was a bonus wine, I had not heard of it, and indeed it is not on their web site. A 100% Carignane made for the Australian market! The other wines showed well and I am pleased to add them to my cellar for later drinking.
