Light yellow. Fresh, reticent nose. Delicate, mysterious, and complex. I really liked this but kept waiting for more grip and intensity which did not show up during the hour or so we had to enjoy it.

Darker than the 2000 Jadot but still completely sound. Compared to that wine, toasty, relatively heavy and oily, and honeyed. I much preferred the finesse of the Jadot.

A very pleasant surprise compared to the last bottle. Yes, there is the unfortunate Groffier wood, but it is well integrated and balanced by lacy, red fruit, wintergreen, spice, and the acidity of the vintage. Nice secondary aromatics too with a bit of stemminess. Excellent.

Dark and youthful appearance. Briary black fruit. Relatively simple and very dense. Primary and quite oaky. Large scaled and atypical for Chambolle with little sense of place.

Medium ruby. Nice combination of licorice and earth on the nose. Medium weight, some sap to the fruit, and gentle for a '95 until the very end, when the tannins assert themselves. An elegantly styled Nuits, which became more obvious when tasting the younger Nuits that followed.
Whoops, this wasn't a Burgundy, but a great addition to a Burgundy line up anyway. Very light, primary, and stern with licorice, anise, all sorts of black fruit, and acidity that made this evening's Burgundies shudder. Powdery tannins. Lock this one up in the cellar for another decade or two.

Light golden. All sulfur at first. This is deeply embedded, but with heroic swirling, rich beeswax and honeyed tones emerge. Completely fresh and rich. Very different weight and concentration than the 2 Chevaliers served at the beginning of the evening which floated like butterflies in comparison. Not the highest acidity here, but more than enough to carry the wine for more than 20 years. If the sulfur would ever dissipate (which I think is unlikely), this could be really good. As is, impressive material that is marred and hardened by the sulfur. Others at the table were less put off by this than I was.

2001 Louis Latour Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles

Dark, looks like a barrel sample. Animal, coarse, earthy, and highly extracted. In short, a typical Ambroise wine with little charm and less finesse.
