Introduction
We were looking forward to this tasting as I know next to nothing about burgundies other than they are pinots and chards and that it is all about the "terroir". Beth Wells presented and did a great job explaining about the regions, styles, etc. Unfortunately the budget was tight so there were no Grand Cru's and only one 1er Cru.

Pinot Noir continues to be one of my least preferred red varieties. I did like the earthiness and minerals in the wines though as well as the higher levels of acidity compared to some Cali pinots. The only ones I would consider purchasing given the QPR would be the Domaine Des Deux Bernard Champs Pimont ($25) or the Frederic Trouillet Macon-Solutre ($18) and that would just be for a change of pace or to pair with a nice meal.
2007 William Fèvre Chablis Champs Royaux 85 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis
Citrus and apple on the nose that follow through on the pallet. Lemon, tart apple, gun flint and lots of acidity. Long after taste. Would be good with a salad.

2007 Domaine Trouillet Mâcon-Solutré 87 Points

Fragrant floral nose with apple and pear. Citrusy but not as acidic as the champs royaux. Also creamier and a little heavier bodied. Long finish. This paired well with goat cheese.

2006 Domaine des Deux Bernards Beaune 1er Cru Les Champs Pimont 88 Points

Now we're getting somewhere. Awesome aromas of ripe red fruits, red licorice, and some earthiness. Tart cherries, red fruits, earthy notes, mushrooms and pop corn??? This doesn't taste as good as the nose might suggest. My favorite of the night. Ann's number two.

2006 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin 87 Points

Candied cherries and strawberries. Lots of ripe fruit and less earthy notes. Not as complex or dry as the previous wines - more of a quaffer and in a new world style. Ann's favorite and my number two.

2005 Louis Latour Santenay Blanc 83 Points

Decent aromas but not as fragrant as the previous wines. This has a hint of licorice. In the mouth it is dry, tart, slightly earthy/minerally but thin. Very fine tannins - more tannic than the previous wines. Just to watery and thin for my taste.
