Introduction

Everyone brought a bottle, and it was delicious. My favorites were the Pinot Noir and the Sauternes.

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2004 Castell del Remei Costers del Segre Gotim Bru 85 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Costers del Segre

Nose was spicy with the slightest bit of brett. Tannins are a bit harsh, and palate is a bit tart, but the fruit is already light so I'm not sure I would wait much longer. It is light to medium bodied. Good QPR and quite enjoyable.

Oaky nose. Balanced, but flat on the palate.

  • 2007 Black Ridge Vineyards Pinot Noir 88 Points

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

Light ruby red color. Nose was spicy with good red fruits. Palate was a tad heavy for a pinot and had a lot of spice, but lacked the fruity intensity I expect from a Pinot. Still very good. One of my favorites of the night.

  • 2003 Baron de Ley Rioja Reserva 87 Points

    Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

Some Brett on the nose. A bit of spice (sweet, not pepper). Some animal musk and manure, but doesn't take away from the nose. Medium bodied, good red fruits with balanced tannins. Maybe a bit too tart on the finish.

  • 2005 Planeta Sicilia Burdese 84 Points

    Italy, Sicily, Sicilia

Light spice with some oregano. Tannins are a bit strong. I decanted for 20 minutes, and a bit long might have been better. Underperformer for the price.

  • NV ReVah Pomegranate 80 Points

    Armenia

Pomegranate juice. Not much more. Nose was more interesting than the palate. Palate was thin and weak.

  • 1998 Château Climens 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

Amber colored. Good spice and apricot/white fruits on the nose. Palate was a bit basic... not that intense. Still showed good botrytis spice and refreshing lightweight flavors. One of my favorites of the night.
