We had one last drink courtesy of Paul and Elsa.
It was a 2001 Cornas that showed its roots with structured spiciness , indian spices and kinda stony garrigue underbrush. Sour cherries dominate but nice grip and has length. 83pts.
2007 Domaine Vincent & Jean-Pierre Charton Mercurey Vieilles Vignes 81 Points

Suprisingly typcially burg with the earthy dirty country soil component married with ferrous minerality and chinese tea. Just a little austere that gives it that old world feel, this os still nice restrained respectable cherries.

At first, I was scared cos there was reductive notes, extreme musky soy sauce beefiness and on the palate very savory . But with time, my fears were unfounded as the wine melded into a solid tuscan worthy of its region. Still lots of beefyness and meatiness but with time had gained more cooler black spice and black cigar licourice notes. Touch of cat's pee but mostly quite old fashioned italian nuances. Age does mellow it quite a bit.

I was highly expectant of this given I recently just had one. But somehow this bottle didnt sing to me like the previous. There was a duller tone and though the sweet rich black fruits and black spiced plums dkd show , it faded more quickly and took quite a while to re surface. Not as memorable as I remembered but still a good wine with breadth and musculiiunty. More reductive notes with this and I dont get as much interesting secondary nuances as previous.

Somehow, this was just smelling fully of sulphur and rotten eggs. With vigourous whirling, kero did surface with tropical fruits. A little artificially sweet and lacking acidity on the palate.
