Introduction

The public Minneapolis Wine Club did Cali Reds at Shari's House. The club has taken off and allows the general public a chance to experience an offline without being a wine geek. While this is low end for the club the wines showed well overall and I look forward to the Barolo tasting this Friday.

As always at the club there are zero corked bottles and all wines have been decanted.

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2005 Whitehall Lane Merlot 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Medium purple. Nose is nice with cherry, spice, oak and vanilla. Great balance between ripe fruits and earth components. Medium finish and integrated tannins. My favorite Cali Merlot for the price.

USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District

Medium purple. Nose of dark fruits, coffee, oak and spices. Good structure and this wine has some cellaring in it. Very concentrated finish and shows mostly dark fruits and toasted oak. Cellar this for five more years and visit again.

Dark wine. Floral, spice and blackberries on the nose and the palate really is intense. Shows big fruit and spices. Medium and concentrated finish. Reallly nice wine at almost 10 years. The best value of 2009 at $10 a bottle on a closeout!

  • 2004 Jeff Runquist Petite Sirah "R" Enver Salman Vineyard 88 Points

    USA, California, Central Valley, Clarksburg

Dark red. Nose is candied fruit and floral. Taste is candied fruit, floral and spice. This wine is not as good as I remember. The 06 opened up over the course of an evening and this needs more then the hour decanting I gave it.
