Introduction

Jim hosted this month's Governors lunch and it was really nice. RC did a great job on the food (always better than the dinners it seems!) and Jim poured a series of very nice wines. A pleasure as always.

Flight 1 - Sauteed Skate, hazelnut beurre noir (1 Note)

2000 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Big rich thick wine with caramel notes. Drink up.

Flight 2 - Roasted Quail wrapped in grape leaves with baked Hubbard squash, pinot noir reduction (1 Note)

1995 Domaine Bertagna Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Sweet tart on the palate but quite tight. OK, not great.

Flight 3 - Grilled Wagyu Hanger Steak with marchand de vin pommes dauphinoise and hericot vert (1 Note)

Another spactacular showing here for a bordeaux. Big rich black fruit and cedar in perfect balance.

Really nice. Tight red fruit and rose on the palate. Showing very well.

1977 Warre Porto Vintage 92 Points

Another solid showing for this port, though I still think it's a bit early for many of these 77s as there is still some tightness and heat.
