    France, Champagne

    Salmon color. Aromas of melon and caramel. Tastes of apple, lemon, cherry, and honeydew melon. Strong backbone soda minerality in the mid palate. Rich finish with some nice elegance.

  • 2001 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Golden yellow color. Pear aromatics with significant toasted oak. Flavors of apple, melon, and lemon. Beautiful balance. Medium bodied. Nice mouth feel. Long elegant finish with very impressive depth and complexity. 13.5% alcohol.

  • 2002 Domaine Jean-Marc Morey Bâtard-Montrachet 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Bright yellow color. Spicy nose of cloves and cinnamon. Tastes of apple, melon, and lemon. Spicy finish. There was quite a bit of debate at the table if this wine was corked or not. At first I didn't see it but after it opened in the glass I could detect it only on the nose. Very slight TCA that didn't seem to detract from the wine for me. 14% alcohol.

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    Cloudy ruby color. Aromas of cherry with a nice earthiness. Tastes of blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, and earth. Well balanced. Fresh acidity. Soft finish. Bottle # 2089. 13.5% alcohol.

  • 1996 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares 89 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

    Dark ruby color. Earthy red berry nose. Tastes of black cherry and charred oak. Bright acidity. Medium bodied. Soft fruit forward finish. It was interesting to taste the 1988 and 1996 side by side. At first I preferred the 1988 but as they warmed in the glass my preferences flip-flopped. The 1988 began to become a little tired and the 1996 started to open up. Bottle # 63. 13% alcohol.

Flight 4 - Lamb Osso Bucco (2 Notes)

  • 1997 Giuseppe Quintarelli Cabernet Alzero 90 Points

    Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT

    Dark purple color. Nose of prune and licorice. Tastes of plumb, prune, and rasin. Charred oak. Chewy. Anise dominates the mid palate and earthy finish. Very full bodied with some alcohol on the finish. Others at the table raved about this wine but their exuberance was lost on me. Probably just not in my wheelhouse. 15% alcohol.

  • 2005 Sine Qua Non Grenache The Naked Truth

    From the Eleven Confessions Vineyard. Deep purple color. Reductive nose of tar, petrol, and charred oak. Tastes of oil, tar, blackberry, and raspberry. Charred oak dominates the alcoholic finish. Our host ran this through a blender and it improved slightly however I still just don't care for this wine. 15.8% alcohol. Unrated.
