  • NV Pierre Ferrand Grande Champagne Cognac Selection des Anges 95 Points

    France, Cognac, Grande Champagne Cognac

30 year old blend. Mahogany. This took a few minutes to bloom, but boy it really did. Intoxicating nose, mixing light and dark elements. Honeysuckle, dried fruits and nuts, sweet spices. Rich and concentrated, pure and long warm finish. Fine and delicious stuff. I'm buying. 94-95

  • 1972 Pierre Ferrand Grande Champagne Cognac Collection Privée 98 Points

    France, Cognac, Grande Champagne Cognac

Collection Privée is a collection of very old, rare Cognacs that are unblended and from a single year, and only from a very few exceptional years.
Distilled in 1972. Cask strength. Mahogany colored. Alluring and intense with vibrant purity. Bright yellow fruits, smoky earthiness, herbs and flowers, molasses in undulating layers. Tingly intense but silky finish which just wouldn't quit. Exquisite. Honestly, I really don't know how to score this as I am not a regular cognac drinker, much less a $600/btl. level cognac drinker. But it's hard to imagine it gets better than this. 97-100? Amazing spirit!

  • 1914 Pierre Ferrand Grande Champagne Cognac Collection Privée 94 Points

    France, Cognac, Grande Champagne Cognac

Collection Privée is a collection of very old, rare Cognacs that are unblended and from a single year, and only from a very few exceptional years.
Distilled and sealed from 1914 harvest. Somehow there are a few hundred bottles of this still existing, which is hard to imagine since there must have been a lot of people at Pierre Ferrand that somehow didn't drink this up before dying, because it is awfully good. Because of the Great War (WW I - !!), this was entirely distilled and barreled by women workers. Chocolaty mahogany color. Brooding dark spice, dark chocolate, cedar, evergreen, toffee, cigar box. Warm and exceedingly mellow. One of paradoxical mouthfeels of weightiness and lightness. Lots of character, but not overall as complex or vibrant as the 1972. A rare treat.
