Introduction
Another fantastic evening at Jim's. While the theme was Pinots we worked our way toward a lot of other great wines as Jim's mad scientist side came out and we popped some real cool stuff. As always the conversation was as interesting as the wines as both went into the wee hours of the morning. Very enjoyable evening. Thanks Jim!
1992 Guenoc Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Bella Vista 91 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Nose: Dusty, red cherry aromas with some spice and cassis hints. Palate: Still very youthful acidity with the cherry flavors showing with cassis undertones.Very classic Napa Cab style. Medium length finish and amazingly youthful given its advanced age. Jim felt this had several more years ahead. While I normally don't advocate aging out domestic cabs this long, in this case I'm inclined to agree.

2005 J Vineyards & Winery Pinot Noir Robert Thomas Russian River Valley 91 Points

Nose: On day 1 very nice and floral, but on day 2 an explosion of fresh flowers, cherries, and some spice and leather hints. Palate: (Day 2) Soft and velvety with sappy cherries but not overripe in nature. Quite balanced and elegant. A lovely, graceful Pinot.

2007 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 90 Points

Nose: Bright red fruits and flowers with a hint of stone mineral. Palate: Good acidity and red fruits showing. Very clean finish and an elegant profile albeit a little short. On day 2 (2/5) still similar to the 2/4 notes. Nice entry level Williams Pinot.

2007 Williams Selyem Zinfandel Forchini Vineyard 90 Points

Nose: Very youthful purple fruits. Palate: Purple fruits, smooth yet youthful tannins and bracing acidity. On day 2 (2/5) the wine is similar to day one but with a higher ripeness level. This Zin is very cool not only in being well made but in its atypical nature. It is neither old school nor new school but rather an island unto itself. This wine has some good potential ahead (91+ points?).

2005 Lillian Winery Syrah Blue Label 92 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
Nose: Initially tar and black fruits. After some air time black tea aromas, and after more air time, coffee aromas (really cool nose). Palate: Big pepper and black fruits. Very primal. While it was complete infanticide this was an amazing bottle to try and has serious 93-95+ point potential. Thanks Jim for sharing this rare gem!

1995 Dolce Winery Late Harvest 90 Points

Nose: Apricots and raisons. Palate: Good richness with fig and raisons showing. Could use a little more acid but overall a nice sticky.

NV Yalumba Antique Tawny Museum Release 91 Points

Nose: Walnuts and raisons. Palate: Walnuts and maple syrup flavors. Long finsh. Yalumba always seems to do a good job with these NV stickies.
