From: Eric LeVine Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 12:54 AM Subject: CellarTracker! v1.1.0 In three words, BEEFY NEW SERVER! I just brought up a massive new Dell box (Dual 2.8Ghz Xeon processors; 2GB ECC RAM; 140GB RAID5 storage; UPS; dual power supply) to host the site. I also installed the latest and greatest on it: Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2000 Enterprise SP3. I was using roughly equivalent software (IIS 5 and MSDE) before but on a dramatically scaled down system. The net effect is that there is about 0% chance we will run into hardware related scale issues. If things are slow now, it is my fault for writing piggy queries, whereas before it was a bit tough to tell since I was running the site on circa 1998 hardware… I have generally noticed that the site is a lot snappier now. It certainly is much more redundant, so the odds of any data loss even in extreme disaster should be significantly lower. I am still displeased with the performance of the main wine list, but I think I have a good handle in which parts of my query are pig slow and should be able to make that instantaneous. Now mind you, I am not a DNS expert, and while the site seems to be working flawlessly at this moment there is always a chance I messed something up. So keep your eye out (although if I messed up the symptom would be that you couldn’t browse the site…) Finally, In honor of my beefy new hardware and software I have bumped the version of the site to 1.1.0 Thanks, Eric LeVine
