Subject: CellarTracker! v1.3.0

Two new things this weekend: (1) a report based on Wine Advocate drinking windows which shows when you should drink up, and (2) I finally exposed the label printing user interface.

Maturity report
Show a report of bottles coming mature by year based on Wine Advocate drinking windows.

Label printing UI
Cleaned up and exposed the label printing UI. NOTE: you should only use this if you have the DYMO software installed.

Cleanup users view
Filtered users from the summary who have neither bottles nor tasting notes.

As I emailed Patrick this weekend, in order to set up for label printing you need the following:

EQUIPMENT

STEPS
  1. You need to install the DYMO software on a WINDOWS COMPUTER. (Sorry Mac users, but the website integration works by way of some nice object model that Dymo has exposed only on the Windows platform.)
  2. Then put the BARCODE.LWT (right-click on this link and choose the option to Save As) file in c:\Program Files\CellarTracker.
  3. Then browse to http://www.cellartracker.com/list.asp?Table=Labels to see a list of all the bottles that have yet to have labels printed. You can also toggle to see ALL the bottles and to select specific labels with checkboxes.
  4. To take things in smaller bite-sized chunks you may want to do 100 at a time. Fill out the TOP edit control on that first page of pending labels, and press the Preview & Print button. This will give you a preview, and at this point press the link in the upper right of the window to commit the print job.
  5. You can vary the T=# value to suit your preference. I recommend taking about 400, then 80, then 10. They key thing is that a roll is supposed to have 500 labels, and I don’t really know how the printer will behave if you overshoot.
  6. One last warning: once the final printing page comes up and tries to print the label is marked as “Printed” in the database. So it is better for all of us if you make sure not to overprint/paperjam etc. If you do you will need to select the non-printed labels via checkbox. I have managed to print more than 2000 labels without mishap, so if you take your time and use the UI on the site to preview things, you should stay out of trouble.

Thanks,
Eric LeVine
