Being offered as an opening offer by the Wine Society, the 930 Rioja Reserva 2010 is being marketed as a special blending with input from Pierre Mansour. Cost is £99 in bond.

Obviously as a limited edition, there's not much information to go on, but Contino wines seem to be widely available (starting around the £20+ / bottle mark), and 2010 was a great year in the region.

Anyone got any insight into Contino wines? Worth a punt?

I'll tell you in 6 or 7 years when I open the first one!

I think the Wine Society are pretty good with Rioja, so I made the punt (for a 6-pack), you can't really go wrong with Contino, can you, it's usually great stuff..

2010 might be a good year for them, in this case, depending on what varieties / vineyards are used for this custom wine.
Contino best vineyards are south oriented (Viña del Olivo) and usually they excel in cooler vintages (2005, 2007).
I tasted 2010 Contino Selección Jesus Madrazo and was, albeit too young, really good.

I'm still looking at 2004s and 2005s and even some 2001s, I can't get my head around 2010 Rioja yet !
The price is pretty good and I would think it will be a reliable wine from TWS

Yep, took the plunge, thanks guys - like you said, not exactly a huge financial outlay, but I've never been let down by the WS before!
