We recently had a Secret Santa gift exchange at work, that was alcohol related.
I made a wish list, and one of the items I wanted was Zenology wine glasses. I
specified Red Wine, and my Secret Santa bought me those.

What I just realized, is that he bought me "long Stemmed" glasses, and not the
Cabernet Sauv glasses I was hoping for. He doesn't know much about wine, so
he didn't know any better. I am at the cross roads of keeping them, or asking him
to exchange them for me.

I guess my question is... Is there a benefit from the long stemmed glasses? They are
like a foot tall. I have not tried drinking with them yet. I am just wondering if there
is any benefit to long stems, I am not aware of.

Thanks

Yes - less distance from the bar / table to your lips, therefore you get a sip much quicker.

They tip over easily and they break more easily when getting washed. No advantages, they just look impressive.

Contact Wine Enthusiast directly and if they let you exchange, then great. If not, they were a gift and enjoy.

This one seems to have a long stem:[image]https://d3gt6ua32jjhu3.cloudfront.net/i/pzi/giant-prosecco-glass-lr-02-7422-800.jpg?_t=1782116158[/image]

(And no, not only is there no benefit, your s.o. will get annoyed because obviously, they won't fit in the dishwasher and will always need to be cleaned by hand...)

I would have difficulty finding a place to store them, all my glasses fit in a hutch. I never wash my glasses in the dishwasher, always hand wash and air dry. Too many unknowns to deal with, plus i spent some money on my stems so I want to make them last as long as possible.

I agree with vinokpm: if you can't exchange them yourself, I'd keep them and enjoy. Asking the giver to exchange them would be inappropriate.

That said, I also agree with many above: long stems are for looks. I most associate them with glasses with larger bowls. Short stems with a large bowl would look awkward. Some, however, are a little too crazy tall. Riedel Sommelier stems are about as tall as yours, but they look proportional, as the bowls are huge.

Plus, they really do break easily. My impression is that even looking at them can cause them to break! These are for once-per-year champagne at midnight, basically, or special events of that kind... which means washing them twice since they acquired dust. That's when they break. So, each time you use them, you have a few less by the end of the evening!

...and when you're trying to drink from them (especially after 1 whole bottle consumed alone).
