I need recommendations for a favorite Amaro (that I can actually find in the US). I need it for a dinner in December so I can wait until fall and buy from someone who will ship to me.

You're already planning a dinner in December?  I don't know what I'm having tomorrow night...

Amaro is a bitter/sweet Italian digestivo
I'm going to pick up a Fernet Branca in Orlando next week. I'll try some others too

You can find a good selection of Amaro at K&L (klwines.com). I deal with the Northern California spirits buyer all the time. He is really passionate about spirits and is very knowledgeable and helpful. Send him an email, I'm sure he'd love to help you. His name is David Driscoll (daviddriscoll@klwines.com).

Averna is my favorite generally available Amaro. Ramazotti can do the job as well though not as good.

My personal favorite is Fernet Branca if that helps.
