St Joseph makes some excellent wines (and a lot of duds)....it is quite a bit area, but the prices are usually excellent.

I liked the '09 Offerus...it's a good starting point to see what the Northern Rhone has to offer at least.

Gonon is the darling of St. Joseph though, not sure who'd rank second. J-L Chave also has a St. Joseph with their own vineyards...in addition to the negociant wine J-L Chave Selection - Offerus.

I have only a single bottle from St. Joseph, the Vin d' Hospice vineyard. They aren't inexpensive, but the 2007 should drink well in a couple years. I looked for the 2009 and 2010 at my local, but there Rhone section is starting to really suck and JJB didn't offer them last year. I don't doubt St. Joseph is up there with Cornas and Hermitage. I don't think this is big news to Rhone peeps!
