Last night we held a wine wake for my recently departed wife and wine drinking companion. She asked that I get her wine drinking family and friends together for an evening of drinking good wine and remembering her. We had 6 red wines with appetizers and a dinner of pizza and salad. Dessert was a homemade cheesecake (New York style) with a bottle fo Far Niente Dolce.

The six reds, in the order we originally had them (with the approximate date)

'18 Heitz Napa Cab (first tasted in 1982)
'18 Zaca Mesa Eight Barrel Syrah (tasted in 1992)
'19 Far Niente Napa Cab (tasted in 2000)
'19 Larkmead Napa Cab (tasted in 2008)
'19 Rombauer Napa Zin (tasted in 2008)
'19 Epoch Estate Ingenuity (tasted in 2011)

Different folks had different favorites, but everyone enjoyed all the wines. Too bad she could not be there)

Thanks to all for the thoughts. The party was a great success - much laughter and enjoying the wine. Just what she wanted.

I think you done good. I showed my wife your post and she said "yep - you can do that for me."

What a touching post. I am so sorry for your loss and I am glad to hear you were able to honor her memory with the wine lineup and get together that you enjoyed.

Cannot think of a better way to honor your wife than have so many of her friends raise a glass of some of your favorite wines.

Take care, Bob.

Wonderful way to pay tribute to her, Bob.
I've never had any of those wines, but I do have a 2018 Far Niente Estate Cab in the cellar that will somehow include a toast to you and her when it gets opened.
Cheers
