After the insanity of last year's releases (2014 Burgundy, 2013 Cab, and 2015 Riesling in wallet-breaking numbers), we'd really like to curb spending this year. However, there are some automatic buys that are almost mandatory from the wineries we love:

MacDonald (this is for me as my wife doesn't like much Cab, but I'll be damned if I'm passing on my allocation)
Myriad (again, for me since my wife got her giggles on with all the 2015 Riesling)
Jean Edwards Cellars (the new Mt. Veeder, the Rutherford Reserve, and 74-41 for me; the petite sirah and suav blanc for my wife)

Shafer One Point Five and Chappellet Signature are each 3 - 6 bottle purchases at my local Canal's too. Gotta keep those verticals going, eh?

Other than that, there are some that we'll consider since we are regulars, but aren't frothing at the mouth to buy:

JJ Prüm
Comte de Vogue
Ponsot
Arrowood
Huet
Shafer-Frohlich
Bedrock
Keller

We've already passed on a couple, including Outpost (which might have been a pretty numbskull move on my part). The above Rieslings are only there because we bought so much in 2015. However, since they're comparably inexpensive it's worth testing the 2016's out when the time comes.

Alright, winos - which wineries are no brainers for you? Who automatically gets your money this year as soon as you get the email notice that your allocation is live?

I don't do allocations, but I have one wine club - Merryvale that I will get quarterly shipments from.
I particularly want more of their 2015 Sauvignon Blanc.

Hoping to order some Lagier-Meredith Syrah next weekend. That's about all I have budgeted for Berserkerday.

After that I'm open to whatever comes along when I have funds available.

does 2008 Dom come out in 2017?

Prum, Donnhoff are musts
Cayuse i get a few 3 packs
several others most likely will buy, but nothing that's a 'must'.

Let's just say the list is long but distinguished and also in need of some paring back I suspect. We usually do a review post these trips to see if there's any that we think we're ready to drop and any that we want to add and then hope that the net number is in the vicinity of zero (this is a pipe dream, but as we haven't had the conversation yet, I can continue to dream).

If I get an allocation, Kosta Browne. Will be the first time. Gotta try and just see if this works for me. A rare splurge.

Addendum:

Just notified of Kosta Browne allocation with spring release. "Spring" = -1/31/2017? Odd to call that spring, but whatever.

No idea as to pricing nor allocation specifics yet.

Passed on Arnot-Roberts Rose' for now. Plenty of good Rose' out there at a lower price to explore.

Cheers!

My must buys for 2017 are:

Rhys
Realm
Williams Selyem
Myriad
Ridge Monte Bello

and some assorted Italians, Germans, and French wines. I need to learn to leave the others behind as I have negative space in my cellar.

'85 and '98 Chateau Magdelaine.

More older vintages of d'Angerville Taillepieds and Jadot Corton Pougets.

More Gonon.

Have checked out Arnot-Roberts, and have an allocation of Rose'. Hesitant due to price and shipping costs.

Also interested in Merry Edwards, as may have opportunity to attend a wine dinner featuring her wines.

Any more detailed input/insights would be appreciated.

Cheers!

PinotPhile,

The Arnot Rose runs about $30 including shipping to get it to where we are.
There is certainly lower cost rose out there which depending upon your style
preference might be a better choice. I would classify the AR rose more in the
lighter Provence style which I prefer. For me it is worth the tarif.
If you like a heavier style, definitely find a way to try one before buying too many.
One AR wine I definitely recommend is the Watson Ranch chardonnay. the 2014 was awesome.
Have not opened one of my 2015s yet

For Merry Edwards all we purchase is the SVB. This is an annual by the case purchase.
It is one of my wife's favorite weekend wines. The Pinots are good but not for me.
The style is fairly typical fruit forward California pinot.

hope this helps.

Looks like Kurt Russell turned in his eyepatch and retired Snake Plissken, and is trying his hand a wine now.

Gogi is Kurt Russell's label made in conjunction with Ampelos from St. Rita Hills. We have had a few of his 2010 " Tiger" PN and liked it so we are going to go for a few vintages and see how it ages. When we get our backyard finished we'll have you guys over and pop one.

+1

Have been to the winery.
Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays are solid, but can usually find similar quality at better prices.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favorites. Stock up on some every year.

Sounds good. Hopefully your mud pit will dry out here. We have standing water in our backyard and it is fully landscaped. What a way to end a drought!

Scarecrow (for personal reasons)
I might drop some other mailing lists; I've already passed on a few.

High end Champagne
Searching for some aged Chave and Rayas
Always more Burgundy

We're cooking up an anniversary celebration in June which should include some 'candy.'
