I’m proposing a secret santa Asia rather than an Asia meetup ... although a meetup would also be very cool.

I'll participate if you can't get enough people. Yosh buys a lot through JJB out of Oakland, California and they ship all sorts of stuff to him. Usually the do economy air, and there shipping rates are not so bad. $50+ bottles plus the shipping fee. This would probably cost me as much in shipping as the wine itself, but you have to start sometime. I will of course need to talk with my JJB guy, Roland first about the time needed to set this plan in motion. If for some reason you can't get the logistics worked out before the December holiday period, we could plan something for next years Chinese New Year celebrations. Just a thought.

If ya'll did ~$100 bottle target price (or equivalent currency) then the international shipping cost is half as much on a % basis, and everybody considering joining knows they'll get some primo juice.

Whoever wants to play goes on the list and gives Santa’s little helper a shipping address. Santa's little helper pulls names from a hat and tells each participant the address for the player they are buying for. Then you send your recipient a bottle of interesting juice of broadly agreed upon value in time for Christmas. Then we guess who sent what …

The US/Europe versions seem like a bit of a laugh

Who de we even have in this neck of the woods?

Wrighty
Ikileo
Paul S
Grape Juice
Ytsai
Me

I’m sure others … plus CiH wants to play :)

[edit] could ship them, or I have a friend that goes to Taiwan and Sing a lot that could courier for me or source locally

You might entice some of Paul's CT drinking buddies to join. Even if they are not Forum posters they are certainly CT offliners.

StephenAkiko should be back in Japan before long he might be in. We can always watch the Zachy's/Christies auctions in HK for any bottles that are wallet breaking too

So I checked with Zachy's in HK and they have several auctions in October and November, and they do ship to Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and locally to Hang Kong for $50HK....$20US. I think this could be a decent option for people in the states that want to participate in an all Asia SS. Those in Asia needing to send a present stateside have many options to choose from with reasonable shipping rates as well. I will have approximate price of shipping one bottle to the other Asian countries, outside of Honk Kong (as opposed to mainland PRC).

Sounds like a plan - just need to sort out shipping.

Okay the auction people in Hong Kong got back to me and besides reasonable shipping, when a bottle goes to Singapore, Japan and Taiwan the GST and 7% duty has to be paid. About the same cost as shipping, not really a huge concern to me.
