I am fortunate to have great vintages for birthyear, anniversary, and birthyear of child (HRH's birthyear is not so good)
Anyone else trying to backfill?
(unless you were born yesterday)

I have bought some for our anniversary and need to pick up a few more. Dr C’s birth year is not good and mine is only ok, but I have had a couple of mine as treats. Since we do not have kids we have bought wine for our nieces and nephew. They might get them at some point.

I started this ridiculous hobby too many years after my wedding (20+ after) and after the birth of my kids (15+ after) to buy anything on release.

I have not really made any attempt to go back and buy at auction any of those years. (But, appreciate y'all giving me another valid reason to spend money on wine. )

To the question - my answer was yes, but I'm not a fanatic about it. I do enjoy 1966 Ports. My wife and I share a love of the 2007 (the year we met) and 2014 (the year we married) vintages, so there are a few bottles & magnums from those years in the cellar.

Occasionally, as I find things which fit within our limited budget.

Mostly, I keep an eye out for anniversary year wines (2001). Looks like I currently have seven bottles, all relatively humble - a couple of auslesen, a tokaji. a barolo, an amarone, a single quinta port, and a sauternes.

In the past couple of years, I've also found Rivesaltes from my birth year (1977) as well as my wife's and my dad's. Now and then, I'll add bottles for my daughters to have when they're 21.

I have a birth year wine on order - 1954 Haut-Brion. I know, I know, likely a Bordeaux Superieur from 1997 or 1973 or whatever with a nice label. Life is full of risks, this one is calculated.

My vote was yes. My birthyear, 1964, I have tried a time or two but no interest in finding more, the wine generally was almost as bad off as I am. Barbilocks has a different year, but she also prefers younger wines.

We do have an anniversary wine, not from year we were married, 2007, but the wine we served at the wedding, a 2004 Moon Mountain Cab blend. We drink it on anniversaries when we remember. Also the first wine we made as a family, picked and stomped the grapes, etc... was a daughter's wedding wine. She still has a full bottle or two I think. I had wanted to make them a 10-yr anniversary rendition of the same wine, but was saddened to see that particular vineyard near Prosser ripped out last fall when I went by to inquire. Might buy a small lot of Riesling this fall from somewhere anyway to make it, and will sterilize some straight Riesling grape juice for their kids. 2019 is harvest needed to give it on their 10th anniversary in 2020.

We have not officially had birth wines for children or grandchildren, but our current youngest born a month before our first harvest. So far Xxxx Rose seems to fit best since that is her middle name. Other possibilities exist for namesake wines, but like I said, nothing official unless you count Barbilocks. We are adding a third grandchild in a few weeks and its parents like Port, so blessings and possibilities continue.

My wife is 1964.
Spanish riojas gran reserve are terrific from 1964. I have heard that 1964 was one of their best years ever? I buy them all the time when I come across them.
Relatively, not that all expensive either

I don't collect birth year wines for myself, as it wasn't a particularly good year, but I've gotten a few designated magnums for each of my kids.

I do. I currently have mixed case+ of wines to celebrate the year we were married (2005), my son's birthday (2006) and daughter's birthday (2009). Lots of great stuff to choose from in those vintages. The missus was born in 1983 and we've had some delightful Bordeaux from that year but none are currently on-hand. My birth year (1981), however, was pretty much dreadful in most parts of the world though, I have had some luck with Napa Valley wines from that year. I currently have an '81 Mondavi Reserve on hand for my 40th in a couple of years...I may need a back up! Taking recommendations!

1964 was also a pretty darned good year for Barolo and you'll find some of the older producers will do a library release from time to time. Borgogno did a release of their 1961 and 1964 within the last five years or so.

I've been trying to put together a few things for my oldest grandson's 21st birthday next year.

Not exactly on point, but we did a '69, a '72, a '74 and a '78 at Bern's Steakhouse one night. That would be high-school graduation, marriage and births of our two daughters. You can guess which year is what.

Math sucks.

I buy 2000 for the year we met, 2001 for the year we married (need to restock both), 2004 for our oldest niece, 2007 for the next niece, and 2012 for the twins (boy and a girl).

The oldest lucked out with Lalande, Baron, and Pavie. The twins might get a MACDONALD and unfortunately some M. Ilan. I need to get some better stuff for the middle child.

95% of my cellar is 2009, 2011 and 2013. The vintage of my children. 2009 is heavy on French wine, 2013 on Italian, and 2011 more of a mix.

My birth year is 1956 which wasn't a great year for wine. That said, I might try for a port. Beyond that, not even attempting.

We did go for an anniversary wine from 1988. That turned out to be… less than spectacular when we opened it. Dang!

I'm 56 too.
Looked for years to find something.
Finally a few months back bought White - Sweet/Dessert
1956 Château Gilette Crème de Tête
Opened it the first time our best wino friends were over.
It was Ok - we did drink the whole bottle.
One more box checked off. Will stick with the 1964 for my wife.
I always look for and buy when I find them - birth and anniversary year wines for our close friends.
