Still in a deep depression over having to attend a business meeting Friday instead of BvsB II in London, I'd like to propose a special edition of Friday First Pour. My suggestion is that we focus it this week on Bordeaux and Burgundy so those of not attending the festivities can have our own virtual event. Structure would be simple...grab the best Bordeaux or Burgundy out of your cellar that you dare, drink up, post notes. We can even triple-post on this thread, Friday First Pour, and Bottle Consumed Alone.

Any interest out there?

Edited to update participants and wines:

Bordeaux
pbm - 1995 Pontet-Cadet
caeleric - 2002 vincent bouzereau meursault 1er cru goutte d'or
recotte - Leoville Les Cases
Beachrooster - 1996 Calon Segur
cookiefiend - 1996 Chateau Leoville Barton

Burgundy
petitblanc - 2005 Joseph Drouhin Beaune Clos de Mouches
jhannah27 - 2009 Nicolas Potel Savigny-lès-Beaune Roche de Bellène
Beachrooster - 1982 Viard Vosne Romanee 1er Cur
caeleric - 2002 vincent bouzereau meursault 1er cru goutte d'or
cookiefiend - 2000 Domaine Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune

Looking like a very nice line-up. I'll check back for additions. For a completely meaningless contest if everyone who scores their wines messages me the results I'll average them out and we can declare a "winning" region.  Going to decant the PC now...

Excellent. That makes it official as far as I'm concerned!

Here's what I'm going to choose from:

1994 Leoville Barton
1995 Ponet-Canet
1995 Leoville Poyferre
2000 Beychevelle
2000 Talbot
2000 D'Issan
2000 Giscours
2003 Leoville Barton

Leaning toward the '95 Ponet-Canet right now.

No, I think the PC should be good, but the 95s are quite tight at the moment. The Leoville Poyferre would be a good choice - I have had the 94 on numerous occasions at it was on the downslope, but the 95 might have more legs.

Looking at your cellar I guess the 1970 Mouton is out of the question?

Options are somewhat limited. Zero red burgs, a few whites. Will likely open a Bordeaux:

Reds:
2005 Château Brane-Cantenac
2007 Château d'Armailhac
2005 Château Fleur Cardinale
1999 Château Mouton Rothschild

Sauternes:
2007 Château Haut-Bergeron
2003 Château de Fargues
2005 Château Rieussec

Good idea ... but I won't be able to participate, as all such qualifying wines that I own are not with me in England.

Hummm

I'll try to chose between these:

2000 Domaine Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune
2003 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin
and
2006 Joseph Drouhin Chassagne-Montrachet
2007 Château des Rontets Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Varambon

Or if I go Bordeaux:
1998 Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou
1996 Chateau Leoville Barton

Since you're twisting our arms, I'm in

Very few Burgs in our cellar anymore, but this is a fine excuse to check in on one of the odd 375's we've got lying around:

2005 Joseph Drouhin Beaune Clos de Mouches

My CT is a little out-of-date...drank that a few months ago.

Now someone with less grace than me would suggest a shopping trip but I would never be so gauche...

I've brought it up, and the Leroy.

Now to decide what to have with them...

Why not take some insipration from the menu made up for us at The Square to match the Bords/Burgs?

It's on the first page of the London Bordeaux vs Burgundy thread

Not that this really matches up to the wines being suggested for consumption here, but I just picked 4 of these up from WTSO, and they arrived today. I was going to pop one on Friday regardless, so I may as well share in these festivities.

2009 Nicolas Potel Savigny-lès-Beaune Roche de Bellène

I know, I know....baby killing and all. I'll give it some love to help it open a bit.

!

What a marvelous idea!

I think I'll have lamb chops with potatoes roasted in a bit of duck fat (theres's some in my frig ) with a sprinkle of truffle salt and a vegetable confit/ratatouille.
Sounds delicious!
Thank you Khamen!

Tradition in our house is that our 5 year old daughter gets to pick dinner on Friday nights. I think the only thing from the Square menu I can sell her on is the dessert. Maybe one of those Sauternes is going to be opened....

Otherwise, what goes better with pizza (her normal selection)?

Ok I'm in on this one! Firday right? Having dinner at the Solbar in Calistoga with the Pattersons (Switchback).

1982 Viard Vosne Romanee 1er Cur
1996 Calon Segur

I just realized I need some 1999 and 2000 vintage Burgs. Everything I have is too old or too young.

Friends may add to B vs B as well.

Taking French wine on your Napa trip? Are you sure that's legal?

I usually bring 1/2 case of champagne (Krug 375s) every time I go there ...
