It's very interesting to me to see the wherabouts of the various CT'ers as shown in the forums.  We know Wrighty's in Hong Kong, the Colonel's in Arabia, Jamscreator - Indiana, NWinther - Denmark, and moi: Santa Ana.  So I'd like to encourage everyone here to update their profile with what region of the world they're from.  Don't know if this matters to anyone else, but I find it another little juicy bit of trivia to consider while whittling the time away here on Cellar Tracker.

No problem with that.

Didn't know mine wasn't filled out -- ok, fixed!
(Now you can see why I have so many TN's from Temecula!)

Just wanted to refresh this thread since I've noticed a bunch of newbies.  Request that we all update our profiles with our locations, since it doesn't happen automatically.  Thanks everyone.  Always find it interesting to see what corner of the world CT is reaching!

Cheers

Yep, really here.
I can tell you we had a shamal over the past few days, that breaks in subterranean cables all but knocked out our communications with the outside world, that it's unseasonably cold and we had storms leading to floods a week or so back.
That Dubailand isn't finished, it's hardly started, in spite of what US press reports say.
The tallest building in the world though is nearly finished - http://www.burjdubai.com/
And most importantly we have a new Crown Prince and Duputy Ruler appointed this week - Sheik M'hd's sons.
Yes we are still a benevelent dictatorship, or feudal monarchy, or some similar description.
Fortunately the current ruler is a genius - with soul.
Highly recommend that anyone stops off* on you way through, to Singapore, Australia, India, Bangkok - wherever, we're the hub to the world.

* my wine doesn't live here with me some don't come expecting that ;)

Serge,

I would've thought you were a New Yorker, what with your respect for Chambers St. Wines (which will be within close walking distance of my new office!)  Surprised by the Boca Raton.

Deb, Chambers are only 1276 miles away from my house, but I shope there quite a lot, as they have lots of wines I truly like,
no freaking points and under $20
;)

We go to NYC at least 4-5 times a year (lots of mishpuha there) so I stop at the store from time to time just to say HI, as shopping online is much more convenient.

When we stay in Manhattan, we are close to your office, we rent apartment right above J&R Music store.

First post, from Philadelphia. Wine newbie, but learning as fast as I can... which is one of the reasons my cellar is so small ;)

Best way to learn - have a big cellar, and search CT.
Good luck building it up, you'll find someone here who has a view about nearly every wine you could be tempted to buy.

My cellar used to be pretty small too.  A few bottles here, a few bottles there.  And now after a few years of drinking heavily, my accumulation is becoming sizable.  about 130-150 which is still tiny to some people.

The wine forums are what start making your cellar grow.  Someone mentions something they liked, you like and respect that person so you want to try it, then all the sudden your credit card bill comes and you realized you've gone nuts.

I got going seriously (as I've mentioned before) when I read an article saying you should buy twice as much as you plan to drink and sell half after a few years at double the cost to pay for all the wine!
But it was discovering
http://www.wine-searcher.com/
and
http://www.cellartracker.com/home.asp
that made me realise I really could get the worlds best wines at the best prices.
Luckily I started collecting with the 2000 Bordeaux vintage and have recently sold some at gains of 33%-96%.
Not quite 2x but it helps pay for more wines.
I now have rather a lot

I'd like to try that too, but I have a problem.  I just can't seem to let go.  I only recently started collecting, so my cellar is tiny... butIt's growing at the rate of around 50 btls per month.  I figure that I can keep this up until my wife finds out.

I've been working hard to interest my wife more in wine.  So far, she's really into Pinot and Zin and Syrah.  I've been trying to get her interested in Cdp and cabernet sauvignon, my two favorites... but so far no luck.

I started with a 52 bottle fridge.. then added a 28 bottle one... Now I've purchased a 400 bottle cabinet, but it hasn't arrived yet and I almost have enough to fill it already.  I want to convince my wife to allow me to build an underground cellar, although I may have to decide to become single first  ;-)

I have half your problem, my wife can't quite understand why I need so much wine.
She does like the stuff though and as I've said before her ability to taste nuances in flavors is far superior to mine.
My skill is in buying the right wine, at the right price and having it appreciate in value.
So I guess we're a good team.
Interestingly the wines that appreciate in value aren't always the best - top growths, scarcity, hype all come into the mix.
I now hope to sell enough of the wines that have appreciated, to pay for the wines we truly like at very modest net outlay.
Buying more New World now and selling Bordeaux (modestly).
Will probably only buy very top Bordeau Chateaux for 2007.
L.

PS  My advice is find some great Cab-Sauv and suprise your wife, let her point out how great it is.
My wife would go for fruitier, fuller new world wines I suspect, whereas I still like the "complex" she might say "old/musty" flavors of Bordeaux.

I laughed out loud when I read your post, I can really relate. My hubby iis a beer drinker though he will try some of the wines. He doesnt mind me collecting wine and is going to build me an underground cellar. (we own a farmlet) However he is a babe in the wood as far as knowing how much I spend. I always get the mail first and hide the credit card statement (I am naughty)

OK, now there is  REAL profile built into the main site: http://www.cellartracker.com/forum/m_20424/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#20424

I will be pushing people to update these, so hopefully we will start to build up a lot more data about all of the site users (and not just the folks that frequent the forum). All of this is foundation material for what will be much richer "social-networking" features to come. Enjoy!
