Eric, Any comments on the recent email from WMJ regarding their decision to start charging a fee for the "free" standard subscription? Is CT still going to use this service, and are CT users still going to get free access to the auction pricing? Here's the email I received today for reference: quote:
Dear Wine Market Journal Subscriber: The past six months have found the Wine Market Journal team working exceptionally hard to improve our website and expand the breadth of the auction data we track. The investments we've made have resulted in a faster and more stable site, and one that no longer requires Adobe Flash for its graphics. In addition, we have created a fully functional mobile site exclusively for Professional Subscribers who are on the go or preparing bids in the auction room. All these improvements have resulted in increased development and maintenance costs. In order to keep the site the fastest, most complete and most up-to-date resource for wine auction results, we will be instituting a new price structure at end of this month. Beginning March 1, 2012, we will begin instituting a nominal US$9.95 annual subscription rate to the Wine Market Journal for Standard Subscribers and US$129.95 for a Professional-level subscription. As we appreciate your continued support, we encourage you to renew your complementary account before March 1st by logging into the WMJ site, clicking the Subscription tab on the main menu bar, and clicking the Standard button at the bottom of the subscription matrix. By renewing before March 1st, your subscription will be extended at no cost for another full year from your current date of expiration. For those of you whom, upon expiration of your subscription, wish for a shorter subscription term, we will begin offering a monthly standard-level subscription option at only US$1.95 per month. Better yet, upgrade to a Professional Subscription before March 1st and lock in a full year of Professional-level functionality, including exclusive access to our mobile site, at the current rate of only US$99. To review the benefits of a Professional Subscription vs. a Standard Subscription, please review the details in our Subscription Matrix. In addition, we have updated our Terms of Use for the website and will begin enforcing in earnest a one user per subscription limitation. Violators of our Terms of Use will find their account disabled immediately, and will have their password reset in order to reactivate their subscription. These new Terms of Use will also go into effect at midnight on February 29, 2011. We encourage you to review our Terms at your earliest opportunity to ensure that you and your organization are enjoying the site within these parameters. As always, we sincerely appreciate your support of the Wine Market Journal and hope that you will find the additional speed and functionality of the improved WMJ site to be well worth the nominal new subscription fee. Kind regards, Jonathan Clark JClark@thewmj.com Thanks! Robert
