It would be great if we could do that same poll again. It´s been 10 years and some of the people that answered it do not longer participate here and there are many newbies that just signed up a few months or years ago. Also I would think that today the times have changed and what in 2012 a long wait was 3 years now it´s 10. I don´t want to repeat the topic, I have no idea how to put here the same poll 10 years fast foreward

I can attest that in 2012, the wait list wasn't 3 years! I signed up in March, 2011 and got my first allocation in September, 2019.

You can email their customer support and ask for an estimate of where you stand on the list.

I signed up for the list after tasting it in 09. It took seven years to get an allocation.

Just looked up my info about this (searching through old emails). I signed up in May 2012, made the list in September 2020. Took over 8 years for me...

What would everyone consider the Holy Grail of Cayuse allocations? Beyond the obvious Frog and Widowmaker, which I think is everyone's top 2 (jump in and correct me if I'm wrong).

I've currently got four—Cailloux, Armada, Camaspelo and The Lovers—and if I get something new off my waitlist (as I have every year), think I'll have to start making some stricter selection choices going forward, because a case at this price point is really all we can reasonably manage, especially as we're also on the Horsepower list.

My problem is I haven't tasted enough Cayuse myself (and what I have in stock isn't really ready) so hard to make an informed personal decision as to what should stay, and what should go.

Well, I got an Impulsivo three-pack off my wish list this time around. So, next year at this time, I'm probably going to have to make a decision on futures without having even tasted everything, or just throw wallet to the wine and get more than a case.

Ironically, the only Cayuse wines I've ever actually sampled at this point are the God Only Knows and the Widowmaker, neither of which I've been lucky enough to have added to my list yet.

You just have to go to the release party next year, and taste 8 of the wines. They are absolutely itching to have the party, so it should be epic

Added Widowmaker this year, judging by winebeserker I have at least two more releases before I get the frog…maybe.

2020 ARMADA SY 3 X 750 ML1
2020 GOD ONLY KNOWS 3 X 750 ML 1
2020 THE LOVERS 3 X 750 ML 1
2020 WALLAH WALLAH SP #14 SY MAG 1
2021 BIONIC FROG SY 3 X 750 ML 1
2021 CAMASPELO 3 X 750 ML 1
2021 CAILLOUX SY 3 X 750 ML 1
2021 EDITH ROSE 3 X 750 ML 2

Wishlisted for everything I don't have an allocation for and more Frog and God, and the only thing extra I got was The Lovers. (I can't recall if the second 3-pk of Edith Rose was allocated or a wish list.)

I waited close to 10 years to make the list, and when I did, it took me I think five years to get Frog.

with the wishlist results in, this year we have

Armada
Chamberlin
Flying Pig
Frog
Wallah Wallah Special Cabernet Sauvignon
Wallah Wallah Special Tempranillo

I dropped Cailloux a while ago. Part of me is considering wishlisting the GOK next year, because I've heard so many great things, but the other part of me is yelling at myself to Stop Right Now! b/c I am clearly in the process of acquiring too much Cayuse.

Oof... if the wish list results are out, I didn't get anything new out of that this year, so my haul is:

2021 CAILLOUX SY
2021 CAMASPELO
2020 WALLAH WALLAH SP #14
2020 GOD ONLY KNOWS
2020 ARMADA SY

I received the official “no (additional) soup for you” email this afternoon. While I’m sure I’d be happy if I got something from my wish list, part of me is relieved… the last month has been brutal on the credit cards!

Wednesday I was notified of my acceptance onto their Mailing List! Been so long I can’t recall, but I bet it was 2014 or so. On the 28th, I can buy their ‘15 Wallah Wallah Special Cab and Tempranillo. In order to get future access to more of their wines, should I buy these and the ‘21 futures I have a chance to get? Thanks!

Yes, you should buy your allocation, as well as wishlist anything/everything you’re interested in getting in the future.

I was granted both Specials. Think I will keep the Cab and share the Tempranillo with my dad.

Can Cayuse still be considered culty when recent Syrah vintages are listed on winebid for $65?

I think yes, but like everything "times are a changing"

There is still a reasonably long wait time for allocations and some of their wines still command a premium at Auction.

Your observation of some of the other wines essentially available at or below direct purchase prices would (IMHO) likely reflect on the state of the economy or a personal situation, especially as WineBid is a good Secondary market source. When Retail prices start to approach winery prices, then any winery probably leaves the Cult status.

I did some digging on WineBid, 50 items listed, sorted them in price order from lowest to highest.

Personally I feel there’s several factors at play here:
1) Cayuse has greatly expand their offerings now up to five different product lines/labels. Cayuse, No Girls, Horsepower, Hors Categorie and champagne. That’s a lot to retain “cult” status even with low volume for each.
2) In many instances the lower price wines were not what I would call their top-tier.
3) The top dogs like Widowmaker, Frog, Hors Categorie either sell for top dollar or not available.
4) strange economy at play here. Many people are pruning their cellars and monetizing why they may not drink so quickly

Still buying the ones I enjoy and will drink. Have not been wishlisting much if anything.

Similarly, I'm only buying those that I like now and have opted out of buying those that are just so-so for me. So, I'll keep buying Cailloux, GOK, and Bionic Frog, but have "given back" Armada Vyd. an En Cerise, just for personal preferences.

Cult status matters only if you're looking to sell or looking to impress people who place great importance on material things.

I also would not lump in the other labels with Cayuse.

Buy what you like. Drink what you buy!

Don't forget to add 17% to the price for the buyer's premium...

I got my first futures allocation today after signing up June 22nd, 2014: A 3-pac of Cailloux Vineyard Syrah. I did purchase it and wish listed en Chamberlin, GOK & BF.

Long wait. I've only tasted the Cailloux and GOK, going for the others based on reviews. Bring on the funk!

Drank a 2014 Armada yesterday. Decanted in the morning so at least 8 hours of air. Fabulous. Some of the funk had resolved.
Patience is rewarded with Cayuse wines.

Similarly, I had a '13 within the past month --- aromatically ridiculous, but a bit off knee-buckling on the palate. It's in a fabulous spot, and drinking better than a few years ago (and I thought it was great then, too).
