Clos Apalta 2018.......92 and not ready at all, needs 5 years at least

Andersons Conn Valley 2007........95 pts, at peak, very good wine. Elegance 101

Domaine De La Janesse 2019 ChDP......this wine will be a 95 pointer in 10 years, right now its a 91 or 92. This wine has teenager issues that have to be resolved

I don't even touch my CdP until 10 years, and even then they seem young.

Had one of the best wine experiences of my life last Friday evening. A customer had us and another couple over for dinner. Here’s what we drank. Will post a picture or two when I have a chance.

2017 Etienne Sauzet Montrachet (2 bottles)
2000 Leoville Las Cases
1996 Leoville Las Cases
1990 Leoville Las Cases
1986 Leoville Las Cases
1982 Leoville Las Cases
2001 Chateau d’Yquem

1986 LLC was the wine of the night, but everything was amazing

Holy Sheeyat! A line-up of fantastic Bordeaux vintages! If I told you I was a bit jealous, would you promise not to tell the other forum members?

Our little secret Dennis. My challenge was what to bring when someone is sharing a lineup like this. We did bring dessert. Creme brulee from a local french bakery and some blue cheese from the same cheese shop the board came from. And a magnum of Christophe Baron Champagne for the host.

The cheese board is from Artisan Cheese Company in Sarasota. Amazing as well

Not a bad vintage amongst those. I have several vintages of Las Cases, but not of the above. Amazing!

How was the d'Yquem?

2015 Takri Sireni red wine from Armenia last night. Not bad. Dusty fruity low tannin low acidity styled red wine that went well with roasted chicken.

Had a fellow CT member over last night for dinner and had the following:

1996 Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine Phlippe Charlopin-Parizot
2005 Hospices de Nuits, Nuits St George, Faiveley
2012 Paul Lato Matinee

I made a 36 hour duck confit in souse vide, plus lots of cheese and Iberico from Spain. Was a fun night.

96 was on the downslope, but fine and delicious. 2005 was textbook. And the 2012 (given it's Syrah, not Pinot) was still big and beautiful. I'd give that one some time lying down.

2011 Proper Wines Syrah Stone's Throw. In its drink window's closing and a mite tannic upon opening but after 40 min it was singing.

We finally got around to drinking one of our CT Santa gifts: 2011 Jean-Michel Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru les Champonnets from Dawn / cookiefiend. Delicious! G-C is usually too full bodied for my wife, but in years like '11 and '07, it's a well-balanced wine with a deft touch. Still shows the rich Gevrey flavors without beating you over the head, and just a little lighter body without as much tannin. Wish I could find some, but nothing showed on Wine Searcher.

We received the Berserker Day case from Sabelli-Frisch yesterday and popped this same wine with a grilled chicken Ceasar salad. Very yummy and interesting wine. Pretty sure it was our first of this variety and I'll keep buying from Adam. We also opened the 2020, it was not quite as ready as the 2018, so will lay the rest down for a while.

A recent trend for me is Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo which could be seen as "rosé for red wine drinkers". Tonight a 2022 Torre Dei Beati Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Rosa-ae which is a wonderful light red wine (albeit 14%/vol) which is a perfect hot weather BBQ partner, but even in cooler times an excellent bottle for the ~US$16.5 that I paid. It seems to be fairly widely available in the USA for ~US$20-ish.

Turnbull Black Label Cab Sauv 2016. This is the kind of wine Caymus was making pre 2010 that was sooooo good. Extremely dense, purple, hedonistic, delicious, amazing. 94 pts

Last night - 2000 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, primarily tertiary flavors at this point despite other experiences, primary notes of cigar box, cedar, forest floor, leather and mushrooms, which just a hint of blue/dark fruit here and there...

Enjoyed a 2018 Geraldine Lochet Montagny 1er Cru Les Chaniots Blanc tonight, with the team working at my local wine shop - nice QPR!

2011 Côtes du Rhône reserve, then Grahams 1985 VP with coffee.

The Fonsalette is fantastic. We paired it with a vegetarian+cheese meal: beet ricotta ravioli, steamed broccoli, roast peppers. The wine is closer to Rayas than in most vintages (even looks a bit pale, which is true of Rayas as well), with an incredible fragrant nose of red licorice, tobacco, spice-cake and a very intense, pure red raspberry tone that emerged after an hour. Has a kind of taut energy on the long, soft palate and a mineral finish. Great, and with room to improve.

As for the VP, 1985 Graham is a favorite.
