I have read many threads about the many off-lines that this community participates in; they sound like a fantastic time and I'd like to see what the interest level is among those residing in the greater Seattle area would be in having one. I think it would be great to meet some of the other locals from the community. Of course, no need to limit it to just the Seattle area, perhaps some of those from Portland or eastern WA would be interested as well. Intent here is to gauge level of interest; in general terms of timing, perhaps something in the spring?

If we plan far enough ahead, I'd be in for sure. My wife's due in February, so Spring would be ideal.

I'd be interested, but the wife doesn't drink so I may have conflicting schedules ... Pros and Cons ... Hard to do wine-centric events, but always have a designated driver and hey ... more wine for me ...

Strong Maybe from the Yak contingent.

Grandbaby Number One is due in April in Illinois and you really don't want to be in Mrs.CiS's way when she's heading toward SEATAC that day, whenever that  is.  I will post further warnings on the WA DOT website.

JRock - Barb and I might be able to make one in the Seattle area given some notice in advance. We just hosted one at our home a month ago with 3 other couples. Had a great time and the CTers shared generously. We were going to go to a local restaurant but with only 8 people, we couldn't reserve a private room. Keep us in the loop and we will try to make it. Just an FYI, we are already scheduled to be out there the weekend of Feb. 7 - 11. Great idea ! Thanks, Ed

Most of my friends are beer drinkers. The rest say they are allergic to tannins and/or sulfites. My wife is breast feeding and only takes a sip now and again. If I keep consuming all these bottles alone I will turn into an alcoholic. Count me in.

Excellent, we definitely have some interested parties! Hopefully a few more will come out of the woodwork as well. I'm not concerned about size, small and intimate, as fasteddie did, is good, but hopefully we can entice a few more participants as well. The off-lines sound like a lot of fun and I think it would be great to meet some like-minded people to share bottles.

I'm happy to take the lead on this endeavor, but will wait to see how much more interest there may be out there before trying to set something up.

I will update my response to say I can make this, as long as the wife and I don't have something already planned. She may or may not join me, but I have several friends I may bring as they never seem to mind drinking my wine :-)

Good to see the interest. My wife is due with baby #2 (a girl we now know) in late-ish February, so late January/early February would be best, or I'll be out until likely sometime in late March or past. I am, obviously, just one person and would be completely understanding of the majority, if other dates work out better for all. I ain't going nowhere...

Good to see this back on pg 1; another post to keep it there a little longer, see if there are others out there - skifree, we're calling you!

There seems to be enough interest to move ahead, but still a small enough group that the planning/coordinating shouldn't need to be too elaborate. An idea is percolating........

Let me throw a date out there - fasteddie has expressed interest all the way from Chicago and will be here in early Feb; while Ed and I have yet to meet, we have talked about getting together when he comes out. I think it would be great if to do something while he is here, most likely Sat, 2/9. Hopefully this is far enough out that people are still available and yet close enough people can semi-commit.

Who's in?

We're IN, assuming Snoqualmie Pass isn't completely closed that day.  Mrs.CiSs is heading to IL the following weekend for a baby shower, so this will be our early Valentine's trip/outing.   We're flexible on location (obviously) since we can stay close to whereever the venue gets decided, downtown, woodinville, southside, SODO.   A visit to DamnPaul's place might be fun to work in for tasting and pick-ups, though my Valentine's Day might be in jeopardy unless I tell Paul ahead of time to NOT load the Prius with my pendings.

Should be able to commit, nothing on the books. Wife and I are headed to Cabo for a week on Valentine's day, so shouldn't be an issue doing something the weekend before.

Not nearly as exciting as downstate Illinois in the middle of February, but I hope you have fun anyway.

I will try to have fun in sunny, warm Los Cabos, Mexico in the dead of winter ... I know, not the snow-packed plains of the midwest, but it will have to do.

So next round of the discussion ... Are you thinking of a get together at a restaurant, or someone's house? Any wine theme thoughts floating around your heads yet?

We're looking good! Looks like fasteddie hasn't been on the forum for a few days, but he previously indicated to me his dates were firm, so looks like we have 6 confirmed plus spouses/SO's that also attend, so currently +/- 12 attendees.

With that number, I am definitely thinking restaurant, preferably with a small private room that can accomodate say 10-20 (anticipating room for a few additional participants). Regarding venue, I am open to suggestions; recognizing that we are moderately spread out geographically - Ballard, Issaquah, Maple Valley & Des Moines - I would suggest Sodo, Southcenter, or perhaps Renton as being most centrally located.

Having said that, I have checked one local spot in Normandy Park that is promising - $100 food minimum, can customize menu if desired, $10 corkage - and have another in Des Moines to check that I also think will be suitable. Also thought I would check Urban Enotica in SODO, but I suspect they may be pricey. I'm also very open if any of you have favorite spots or suggestions.

As far as theme, I think I'll stay away from that for the time being and work more on the venue; I'll let the rest of you discuss/debate theme.

JRock - Looks like we have a party ! We have reserved Saturday night, February 9. Thanks for starting the legwork for us. Maybe we could do a theme tasting before dinner ( blind ), and then contribute some wines for dinner that would pair well with the food ? Just a thought.... Sounds like we are well on our way. Cheers, Ed

I think URBAN Enoteca would be perfect. Nice rooms, good food, good wine vibes in the main social area. Multiple wine tasting stations. Also, just a few blocks down from Full Pull (We can probably talk him into being open that Saturday as he does Saturdays sporadically anyway), the Garagiste warehouse, and Esquin wine shop.

Not sure of the price, but can't really beat the package there for a good wine tasting/sharing/dining event.

I've updated the OP with those who have confirmed, including +1 for those who have indicated so. f22nickell, BRR, Jasongreen, let me know if you are +1 (or more if you have friends you want to include as well). There are a couple of other locals I don't believe have seen this thread that I intend to reach out to as well.

Nothing new to report yet regarding venue, will start doing some checking on possible sites. Again, feel free to let me know of any suggestions.

Any others? Feel free to chime in with your interest!

Hi - I will attend unless I have to travel for work (so 80 % firm), would love to invite a friend (spouse is not a wine drinker). Urban Enoteca gets my vote as well for location, they have private rooms. But am flexible.

One option would be to have the get together at my wine storage facility in Bellevue ... They have a couple of cojoined rooms in a very nice Tuscan theme with chairs, tables, stemware, decanters, etc ... No corkage fee, no room fee, just a $100 cleaning fee deposit that I get back if we don't tear up the place.

We'd have to cater in some food, but that would be the only real cost.

I can use it anytime so even if we don't meet here, any other time you want to get together for an impromptu "Pop and Pour", just let me know ...

Here is their link, along with some photos of their wine tasting/party room:

Both Urban Enoteca and Bellevue Wine Storage look good to me......leaning more to Bellevue...more private and less trendy......and no corkage means we can spend more on wine and food. I looked around online a bit the other night and saw that most of the Tom Douglas restaurants have private rooms (some have large tables in the kitchen for private parties) I think the corkage is $15. Anyway location is not that critical for me.

Also, my wife will be coming as my +1.
