ORIGINAL: khmark7 Who is paying for all that Monarchy crap? Me. And all the other "subjects". Looks like you guys are getting cheated. We only had to pay about a tenth for ALL our ex-presidents "The US government spent nearly $3.7 million on former presidents in 2012, according to an analysis just released by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service. That covers a pension, compensation and benefits for office staff, and the government also picks up the tab for other costs like travel, office space and postage." "On 1 April 2012, the old Civil List and the Grants-in-Aid were replaced by the single Sovereign Grant. The British Parliament meets the cost of the Sovereign's official expenditure from public funds. This includes the costs of the upkeep of the various royal residences, staffing, travel and state visits, public engagements, and official entertainment. The Sovereign Grant funding system, which covers the royal costs, has been set at £36.1 million for the 2013-14 financial year." Not really sure where you are getting your math there, but $3.7mil is only about 2.4mil GBP. That's about 7%. It's way less than a tenth. Not debating politics, just math. Pure math. (Yes, I think 3% is a lot. A million has a lot of zeroes.)
