Bad red, or bad white?

I have a firm opinion on this topic, but am interested in hearing the remarks of others first.

I guess you would have to elaborate on what you mean by "bad".

At least with white wine you can usually chill it enough to make it palatable.  therefore I say bad red is worse.

My assumption is that "bad" means that it is just awful swill and completely unpalatable, rather than being otherwise flawed like being too old, being oxidized, corked, etc.

I would say bad red is worse because I cannot think of a time when I poured a bad white wine down the drain, but I have done it several times with bad red wine.

Hmm… I'd have to say bad red is worse, as well.

Had a couple which were really, really foul. And one that had sediment mindful of cottage cheese.

Makes me cringe just thinking about it. Ack!

bad red is worse, imo. ... reds are usually more expensive per mL than are whites of comparable "quality".

I agree with red being the worst.
I also find whites in the $5 range more often drinkable than similar priced reds.

While I agree in general as to the potential badness of a bad red, there is nothing quite as evil as what a truely bad white can do to your head the next morning.

This is like asking someone to taste the milkl and see if it's really gone sour.
Life is too short to drink bad wine ...
let's discuss which is better, really great red or really great white!!

Let's say you're dead. (Robyn Hitchcock:When I was dead, I wasn't interested in sex..So you're looking back from beyond and you think, 'Wow, that shovel really did my head in, I think I'd rather have been put away by a pitching wedge !' Bad is bad.

bad wine always has a use............I use it to make sauces...........and it works well.  Bad wine is a relative issue for me.

I say bad red, but like the princess, I use it in cooking.

If I cannot drink the wine (I'm not saying good/great, but if the "B" word comes out ...), I would NEVER put it into a sauce that I am going to serve with my food.  If anything tastes ok with s*** wine, it can only taste better with reasonably good wine (and it does not have to be expensive to be adequate)
If it sucks, it goes down the drain.
Shame shame.

ob2s ... there was some very philosophical saying about sex v. bad sex, but it escapes me right now.
I am hoping Serge is out there somewhere and can fill in my memory gap.

again bad sex is relative............as is bad wine.  A wife may look at certain types of sex as bad yet it may get her husband fired up for a marathon in which she gets what she needs later on in the session......................it happens.............so the original bad act wound up with good consequence in the end............same with wine.............the worst wine in the world............1965 Bdx............I have made some really nice sauce with................its all relative.

but would the sauce have been better with '83 Bordeaux?
If she gets what she needs, was it really "bad sex?"
I've tried to use bad wine for sauces and braise ... on the rare occasion that things are not quite "right" I always wondered if it was the poor choice of wine.  I have the luxury now of using good wines that I consider past their prime, or wines that I bought on hype and ratings but did not care for all that much (for better or worse, many of my Aussie Shiraz wines are now going into my 3-day beef short rib recipe ... only ok to drink but great with the braise for the ribs).

Maybe bad sex is better than no sex at all?
I agree ... it's all relative.

Interesting, as I feel that bad white is far worse than bad red.  Somehow bad white tends to be very highly acidic, and as such begins eating away at my stomach with the first sip.  Therefore not only is it bad wine, it's painfully bad wine.
